40! 40 Fabulous Years of Sesame Street! Ah-Ah-Ah!

To this day I can’t listen to Billie Idol on the radio without thinking Rebel L.

You just have to love the 80’s video effects in that clip. And the purple Billie Idol. And the cops. And the lyrics. Just the whole thing.

My all time favorite.

Grover and the blue bald guy
Well any sketch with Grover and the blue bald guy is a classic. They recently had one where Grover remodels the man’s house, complete with Extreme Home Makeover jokes.

A loaf of bread, a container of milk, and a stick of butter.

Haha! I forgot about the ladybug’s picnic! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xr8vUTm64h0&feature=related

I STILL quote that one when my mother sends me to the supermarket on an errand while I’m visiting. And shout “I remembered! I remembered!” when I get home.

There was another one, a little girl with a balloon. “I wonder what would happen if I POPPED this balloon?” My hometown had a big blue watertower that you could see from a lot of different vistas, and when I was a kid I always used to say, “I wonder what would happen…” when it came into view as my mother was driving me somewhere.

Ooh! Just remembered “Alligator King”! Unfortunately, I can’t access YouTube from work…I’ll try to provide links when I get home later.

The little girl’s “I love you…” gets me every time. Best Sesame Street sketch ever.

-Olentzero, who proudly shares a birthday with that same non-letter of the alphabet (How do they determine those, anyway?!) and who will beat Sesame Street across the 40-year mark by eight days.

I seem to remember Oscar singing a song called “O is for Oscar,” the same tune as C is for Cookie. Something like “O is for Oscar, that’s all you need to know…” etc. Did that really happen or did I imagine that?

The Alligator King and his seven sons.

I still sing this song when there is one thing that sticks out in a crowd.

According to a biography I read about Jim Henson, Kermit angrily walking away from the little girl was improved by Henson on the spot, as was the little girl’s “I love you.” Amazing how that humorously-cute moment just came out.

I remember being 4, going on 5, and watching the first episode of Sesame Street. I also seem to recall that, before it premiered on NET, they had a sneak preview on one of the commercial networks (maybe NBC?).

This Way To Sesame Street- aired on NBC two days before the NET premiere.

Beet beet, sugar beet beet, sugar beet, sugar beet beet.

It takes a lot of little nuts to make a jar of peanut butter.

We all live in a capital I, in the middle of the desert, in the centre of the sky.

In an old and far off place, there was a lowercase n.

Of course, if it wasn’t for Jim Henson, there wouldn’t be any Sesame Street.

Thank you, sir. <raises a glass>

Only if you want a good cry, check out the following:

Big Bird sings “Being Green”

Frank Oz on Jim Henson

Grab a box of tissues…

Shoot, GuanoLad, you beat me to the lowercase n!

I always always always always wanted to meet Jim Henson. I still do. But I feel like I know him, what with growing up with his work.

The saddest thing ever, especially when I was seven.

There is nothing more memorable than that if you were alive to see it.

And this too: A Boy And His Frog

This is my all-time favorite Sesame Song and no one I know has ever heard of it.

Damnit, Python. I was holding it just fine through the song, but then Big Bird ends it with "thank you, Kermit’. You made a grown ass man weep.
