# 40th Anniversary

What day will be the 40th anniversary of the SD?

The first column was (appropriately enough) published on [Groundhog Day](http://www.straightdope.com/pages/faq/firstcolumn) in 1973, so the 40th Anniversary will be February 2, 2013.

Every year, on Feb. 3, longtime poster **whitetho** posts a thread to remind us of the anniversary. He won’t forget.
