Nah. As long as you have healthy kidneys and eyes, I wouldn’t worry about 4 in 4 days.
But neither are B vitamins entirely harmless. True, most of them are excreted in the urine, but the temporary overdose while they’re being processed can create temporary problems (some of which can be fatal in very high doses) and some people have metabolic disorders which mean they can’t excrete all the excess B vitamins.
B12 in particular can cause rosacea, rashes, pustules and generally icky skin with doses as low as 20mcg a day, but it has to be taken for an extended period of time to do that.
I find they work great, and for about 5 hours, the problem I have is they give me the jitters like effin mad, stomach all jittery, hands that shake. I dont really care for them much but given my line of work if I find I am really hitting a wall I will take one. (that would be 2 of them in the past year so its not often)
 You know, some of us aren’t so lucky. I’ve tried different combos of sleep, but I’ve found the one that makes me most alert is about 10-11 hours and I’m allowed to wake up on my own, not by an alarm. I can do a 7 or less hours of sleep for one or two nights, but then I’ll be totally useless until I catch up with a longer period of sleep.
Also, it’s recommended to get at least 8 hours of sleep, so if you can get by on 7, you’re even more lucky.
I’ve tried it once or twice and never noticed any remarkable changes. Keep in mind though, I took it nights I was drinking hoping it would help keep me up.
Now that’s a spectacularly bad idea. Energy drinks and alcohol are a dangerous mix, and I’m not talking 10:00 News “Healthwatch” Danger. I mean, really dangerous. Caffeine masks the subjective intoxication symptoms, but not the physiologic ones. What this means is you’re way drunker than you feel, and you can drink yourself into alcohol poisoning, coma and death while you still feel only slightly buzzed.
Don’t do it, kids. Just say no to Red Bull and Vodka.
I typically don’t go for energy drinks at all, but I recently did a 17 hour solo road trip through the dead of the night and into the morning (4:30pm to 9:30am). By two in the morning I was spent. I was disciplined enough to keep my eyes open, but I couldn’t focus on the road. I pulled off and rested for 30 minutes - which recharged me. I bought a Coke at a gas station since there was no coffee, and I also bought a 5 Hour Energy drink to keep in reserve. I made it another two hours before I started feeling unfocused again, so I took my shot. I didn’t feel jittery, but I felt like I was on rails. When I get truly tired and worn down, I usually describe it as feeling “tired behind my eyes”, but this stuff made my eyes feel fixed in my face - drooping lids wasn’t a possibility, and suddenly blinking was a conscious action that I had to *decide *to do. Stuff lasted about five hours too.
I would have preferred a lot of coffee, but this stuff worked for me.
I’m sure it’s happened, but it takes a booze rookie or a special breed of idiot to proclaim, “hey, this is my tenth Red Bull 'n vodka, and I’m not drunk, you guys!”.
Or it takes a bunch of friends passing a milk jug full of “Joe Juice” around a bonfire all night and not realizing Joe has actually provided half a dozen bottles all going around at once.
That sounds like a problem of simply too much alcohol, not alcohol and caffeine. If what you say is true, then why aren’t drinks like Irish coffee or rum and coke deadly as well (beyond alcohol poisoning from sheer quantity)?
I have taken a 5 hour energy shot a few times before. They definitely make me feel more awake and although I wouldn’t say that I was jittery, I would say I felt a little spacey. So I am very specific about when I will buy them.
For example, if I have a 5 hour drive to Cleveland after a long day at work, I am all for them. However, if I have to study or write a paper into the night, I don’t think it is a good idea. They certainly work better than coffee for me (caffeine seems to make a neglible difference) but they don’t taste any better. At least it’s in shot form so you can choke it down quickly.
