As the mother of three, I would reiterate what was said upthread about the fact that he won’t stay out of your room without “a lock”. 5 is headed to school age, and he needs to learn that even if something is tempting, taking others’ property without permission, or against rules will get him into trouble. That is the only problem I would have with his behavior. If I told my kid to stay out of my room and my things, he needs to respect my authority enough to obey. ---

Hi **Hedda Rosa**! You are not alone, I posted a thread about my 6 yr. old son two years ago: [six year old son snitching my clothes…advice?](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=463341) I got mostly the same kind of responses as you did. I kept finding my clothes, mostly underwear, for awhile. Each time I told him not to take my clothes and talked about not taking things that aren’t yours, but I never punished him, because I didn’t want to him to associate punishment/shame/guilt with what were sexy feelings for him. I don’t think I’ve found anything his hiding places for a year or more and nothing’s gone missing, so I think the behavior has stopped. My gut intuition is it IS sexual and it’s not about liking silky textures (since all my underwear are plain cotton.) I really get where you’re coming from with not wanting him to “imprint” on this. That was pretty much my feeling…lets not start with something that’s just going to make your life more difficult, although I also think the poster who said if he’s gay or not it’s already been decided, if this is his kink or not it’s already been decided. Like I said in that thread, I, as his _mother_, just wanted to be left out of it! ---

Rock the chair while your legs are tightly squeezed. I don’t buy the “so and so did it and no one ever knew” because it seems like it would be pretty obvious considering it’s not exactly a natural sitting posture. ---
