This article is from November 17th 2020, before anyone knew Trump would instigate multiple plots to defraud the US government then incite an insurrection attempt. I don’t really think it applies. ---

Ever since Jan. 6 2021 there has been much criticism over the delay in deploying the National Guard for more than three hours to bring the riot under control. The usual suggestions have been that it was due to bureaucratic incompetence at the highest levels of the Pentagon, or maybe even slow-walking by people who were sympathetic to the insurrection. Here is a new article from _Just Security_ suggesting otherwise: These authors suggest that the _real_ reason the Pentagon slow-walked deploying the National Guard to D.C. was the fear that once they got there, Trump might have invoked the Insurrection Act and taken control of the Guard to shut down the certification and have himself re-installed as the president-elect.
