The attorney for several Oath Keepers has been disbarred by the Virginia bar, and was told he can’t represent any 1/6 defendants. But he is ignoring all that, and is still filing motions. NY Times has reporting on GOP members’ “behind the scenes” reactions to Trump and the Jan 6 insurrection in the immediate aftermath: “[GOP Leaders Privately Blasted Trump After Jan 6](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/21/us/politics/trump-mitch-mcconnell-kevin-mccarthy.html).” Sorry it’s probably paywalled. In the reporting, they allege that both Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy were supportive of efforts to get Trump to resign or impeach him for his role in the attack. The really fun part is that McCarthy’s office denied the reporting completely, saying it was “totally false and wrong.” Then the NY Times posted a recording of a McCarthy phone call with GOP members that backed up their reporting, showing that McCarthy said what they reported. Oops. Absolute brazen lying, caught 100%, and he will suffer no consequences. 😐 ---

Naturally I am shocked, _shocked_ to learn that McCarthy said one thing in private and another in public, and that his public remarks revealed him to be a craven politician with absolutely no sense of his duty to the Constitution. Shocked, I say. ---

The rumor is that the person who slipped the recordings to the NYT reporters is not (as some have speculated) Liz Cheney, but instead the still-has-a-shot-at-deposing-McCarthy Elise Stefanik. She probably _won’t_ be helped by the situation if Trump stands firm for McCarthy—that’s the big shoe waiting to drop. (Voters won’t care unless Trump cares, and the same goes for the voters in the House Speaker election—always assuming Republicans get the seats they confidently expect.) That McCarthy has been revealed–not for the first time–as a bare-faced liar and toady won’t matter if Donald still thinks he’s swell.
