I think it’s been addressed before, but many of the protesters were charged with criminal trespassing, which isn’t as easy to prove as it would seem. With regard to the Oath Keeper suspect, they want leverage against the most serious offenders. He is part of the organization at the center of the most serious charges. If there’s evidence of sedition, insurrection, or other violent crimes, he would probably have direct knowledge. He could testify as to the intent of future defendants. ---

That’s what I was wondering. Contentious inquiries like this get put into the hands of a senior judge over here, on the assumption that they’re non-partisan, and good at sifting and weighing evidence. Parliamentary committee inquiries do happen but though they are good at throwing their weight about they tend to generate more heat than light. ---
