Isn’t that still a crime? I can’t see how this makes him any less of a menace to society. ---

Beats me, but that’s what he’s shouting in the video. My guess is that he thinks “The White House” is where all government happens and he’s too fucking stupid to understand that Congress meets in a completely different building. OR, he thought Biden had already been installed as President and was storming the White House to remove him. Either way, he’s still (an alleged) violent insurrectionist and should be kept locked up until trial. ---

So if I try to rob a grocery store, but I’m too stupid to read, and end up trying to rob a gas station, they’ll let me skate because I was yelling “I’m robbing this grocery store!” during the botched hold up of the gas station? Something is not quite right here. ---

Insanity pleas are pretty stupid in the US. If you are convicted of a crime, you pay your fine, spend your time in prison until you are out. Probably time off for good behavior. If you are found insane, then you are locked up in a mental asylum until doctors who have an interest in keeping you there decide that you are no longer insance. I’d much rather go the prison route. ---
