7 Types of Rare and Amazing Clouds

Those mammatus clouds are otherworldly.

Also, the dude who posted the pictures looks an awful lot like Pauly Shore.

I don’t know if lenticular clouds count as rare- Mt. Rainier wears them as jaunty hats fairly often.

Well, I like to think they’re jaunty hats or slouchy berets, depending on the elevation. Visitors from outer state occasionally think they’re UFOs.

I’m not sure how people can confuse those clouds with UFOs…

They are a spectacular sight!!

Pretty, I often find myself looking at clouds, just a moment of tranquility for my every day life.

Sam, talking about meteorological phenomena, did you see the rainbow over Bangkok last Sunday?, it was quite a sight, not just a rainbow, a double rainbow.

FalconFinder, it probably helps that there’s several military bases between observers and the mountain, so you get unexplained noises if you’re not used to finding Chinooks or big planes in an overcast sky. Also, if you catch a lenticular cloud at the right time of day it seems to glow.
Ale, that rainbow is gorgeous!

No, missed that. But I’ll tell ya, we got spoiled when we lived in Hawaii. Double rainbows are a daily occurrence there. From the rains up in the mountains even when it stays dry down in Honolulu and on the shore.

Having grown up in Illinois, I thought I had seen most cloud formations, but wow.

If I were driving along a highway, or sitting in my backyard, and saw a few of those rolling in - I think I would have a heart attack and die on the spot! Talk about skies of doom!

I’ve only seen the mammatus clouds twice and like others have said I felt impending doom when I saw them. Very cool and very ominous.

Ah ha! That would explain things!
