> [@maplekiwi](#): > > Rivers of Babylon is one of the worst songs ever recorded. _Nothing_ would get me to click on that link! Rivers of Babylon was originally recorded by The Melodians, around 1972. The lyrics are from a biblical psalm. It’s classic reggae. It appears on one of the most classic reggae albums of all time, _The Harder They Come_. Now, the Boney M version may not reflect that roots rock reggae sensibility, but I vehemently disagree that it’s one of the worst songs ever written. And I do believe that’s Rita Marley (wife of Bob Marley, and a crucial reggae artist in her own right) at 2:01 and again at about 2:58 in the video. ---

> [@acsenray](#): > > … the enduring mystery of how in the hell a second-rate derivative cover act like Boney M ever became global pop stars … Because German cheese is the best cheese. Boney M. were the brainchild of a German music producer named [Frank Farian](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Farian). He is also the man behind Milli Vanilli. ---
