“These are the people in the neighborhood
In the neighborhood, in the neigh-bor-hood,
These are the people in the Neighborhood
The people that you meet each day”.

Man, I thought they were going to do the street hooker, the drug pusher, the winos, the wifebeater, the hitman, etc.

Yep, I remember being creeped out by the singing orange. I had a bad flashback of it a few years ago when my friend’s kid was watching a Veggie Tales video.

Nobody’s mentioned the one that freaked me out beyond belief, so I’m beginning to worry that I hallucinated the whole thing.

An animated short about a girl who sees animal shapes in the cracks which come to life. The first animal she meets is a camel, and they travel together up to the next floor of the house, where they meet a monkey (and yes, he’s called Crack Monkey). The three travel together to the door leading to the attic, at which point the monkey sings in a slow, high-pitched voice:

_At night, behind the door,
I think I hear… one… more…_
They go into the attic and find this hideous monster who shouts and roars at them until he breaks the plaster, causing himself to crumble to the floor.

I’d probably laugh myself silly now at a monster calling itself Crack Master, but that song used to scare the bejeezus out of me. Does anyone else remember it?

Confession: I sometimes find myself singing “round, baby round, baby round, like a basketball, round, baby…” and then giggling like a loon.

Dead or Alive sang on Sesame Street? Wow, I’m sorry that I never watched it in the Eighties.

Nothing too exciting, but the skit that has stuck with me over the years was the one with Lionel Richie, and a capital “U”.
_"U"really got a hold on me… U Reallly got a hoooold on me…_

During the song, the “U” would chase Lionel around, and give him hugs.

Strange the crap I remember…

However, since no one else has mentioned it, I give you the most addicting song in the world:

_ahem_

\*“C” is for cookie, that’s good enough for me.
“C” is for cookie, that’s good enough for me.
“C” is for cookie, that’s good enough for me…

Cookie, cookie, cookie, rhymes with “C”…\*
_bows_

Sorry to nitpick but I think that was Smokey Robinson in that skit (which would’ve made sense since one of his songs with the Miracles was “You Really Got a Hold on Me”).

Ooh! I’ve got another one!

Remember the composer sitting at the piano? He was always trying to write a song that rhymed, and could never think of the obvious word (while all the children watching are screaming the word at the tv).

And B is for bubble. B is for bubble. Bubble, bubble, bubble. Bubble, bubble, bubble. B is for bubble in bubble gum, and B is the brother who brought me some, and B is better than any letter for bubble gum.

C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me. C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me. C is for cookie, that’s good enough for me! Oh, cookie, cookie, cookie start with C!

And Big Bird thinking that ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ was one long kooky word.

The Sesame Street of today totally sucks. Thank goodness for Nogin!

DOH!
I shoulda remembered that; Smokey is one of my mothers favorites.

I thought she was a grapefruit (not an orange). But I digress. Oddly, my mother and I were talking about this one just recently. I don’t remember why, though. I just always thought it was weird, not freaky.

I liked the Yip-yip-yip aliens, too.

I was once in a physics classroom that distracted the teacher by a bunch of us singing “phenomena doot do de doo doo”

Does anyone else remember “He’s the plumber. He’s come to fix the sink.” ? Now, that one was very upsetting to me.

</div>

Does anybody else remember one of the yip-yip-yip monsters’ eating the phone? It seems a rather crucial plot point. I always thought that eating a phone would really _hurt_ at some point.

And the rubberband mouth. Oh, the rubberband mouth. Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek. The spinning hair! Gah!

(I also remember the plumber, but not much else about him. Wasn’t he electric company?)

</div>

I don’t know - I don’t think so, because my mother didn’t like Electric Company so I wasn’t allowed to watch it very often.

There was a parrot inside the house, and the plumber outside, and when the plumber knocked on the door the parrot would ask “Who is it?” and the plumber would reply “It’s the plumber. I’ve come to fix the sink.” And, of course, the parrot would not open the door.

Repeat until the plumber had an apoplectic fit, at which point the family came home and, looking at the man collapsed on their doorstep, asked “who is it?”

To which the parrot replied “It’s the plumber. He’s come to fix the sink.”

</div>

Does anybody else remember the “Corsican Twins”? I think this was Sesame Street, but now I’m not so sure. It was these two guys (not puppets) who would dance around singing “We’re the Corsican Twins! (can’t remember all the lyrics but I do know the tune)”. The basic idea was that if Brother 1 got punched, Brother 2 would feel the pain. So they would start arguing about something and then start hitting themselves.

Messed up.

</div>

Not one that creeps me out, but the first Sesame Street clip which always jumps into my head is “Some…and None” with this bearded non- standard muppet. He walks onstage with a smattering of other muppets, looks at the camera and says, **“Some”**. And then there’s this 6 beat little 60’s riff dance where they all bop around and then scatter, after which the original muppet shouts, **“…and none!”** from offstage. This action repeats about three times with variations: “Some of us are here” (_da-da-da- **daa** -d-dum_) “None of us are here” and then after about 3 times the whole screen explodes with muppets whilst the bearded one sings a song like, “All! All! All the people, and all the short ones, and all the tall ones, and all the skinny ones, and all the friendly ones…”

Then the next verse does the same thing with the monster muppets…

“well, some of the monsters, and some of the toothy ones, and some of the hairy ones, and some of the scary ones, and **some…** ” (_da-da-da- **daa** -d-dum_) "…and **none!**

geez, I LOVED that bit! 😛

Wow, this thread has stirred the memories quite a bit. I can remember not liking the bowling ball robot much. I also HATED the “Muppet News Flash” ones with Kermit. Don’t rightly know why anymore.

And the Electric Company too!! I have always wondered if the others are jealous of Morgan Freeman’s later successes (although of course Rita Moreno had _The Four Seasons_

**Contrabassoon** I think the Corsican Twins bit was Electric Company, not the 'Street. Along with Fargo North, Decoder, and Julia Chef, and “Pie _orrrr_ rice pudding” and “my Nephew Alfonso” and those singing pre-teens [sub]that I wanted so desperately to be one of…[/sub] Ahhh, such memories…

I dunno…

“The E Song”

E
E
See
Me
Eating a peach
Sitting on my eagle
Chasing a beagle
To the queen on her knees
Under a tree
By the sea
She was looking for her Easter egg
Having a dream about eating ice cream
In the Land of Steam
When a baby seal
Tickled her heel
She let out a squeal
And woke from her dream in time to see
The eagle and me
Flying away with the Easter egg
Over the evening sea
Hee hee hee
E
E
E… E… LC

Does anyone else remember one where there was a letter H, it might have been yellow, fading in and out on a TV that was otherwise showing static, with a deep voice repeating, “H…H…H…H,” over and over? Or did I dream it? In either case, it scared the crap out of me.

YEAH!

Bert and Ernie here watching tv when the H…H…H…thing kept going on, so Ernie opened up the back of the set and started extracting a number of items which began with the letter H…including a live hamster.

At which point the tv began going I…I…I…I…which was pretty interesting to Bert, BTW.

That “Everybody Sleeps” short, there was a guy with long hair and beard with glasses reading a book, nods off, and falls out of the chair.
I COULD SWEAR THAT WAS JOHN LENNON!

And that little short of the stop-motion Russian Dolls…you know, the big wooden doll which would split in half at the waist, and a smaller doll would crawl out and split, etc. etc. until a tiny wooden fetus doll would pop out.
