Yikes. Diane Keaton sounds like she just learned to read this morning. WHOA! Upset for THE DEPARTED! I missed it by five minutes at the Cinema Village this afternoon, the last place it’s showing in the city. Guess I gotta catch it now. Well, decent Oscars, but nothing particularly memorable – no crazy speeches or memorable comedy bits or big flubs. I don’t think Ellen will be asked back next year. Biggest surprise for me? Finding out that Forest Whitaker is American! The only movie I’d seen him in before Last King of Scotland was The Crying Game, so I’d assumed he was a Brit. ---

I concur. No wardrobe malfunctions, nobody tripping or losing control, and aside from ME’s speech, no Michael Moore moments (and even she tried to point out it wasn’t a Republican or Democrat thing, but I’m sure she’ll be pilloried anyway tomorrow.) Ellen would have been more entertaining if she’d been actually bad, but she was more like a 25-watt bulb when you need a 100. And I was starting to sing the ‘Montage!’ song from SOUTH PARK by the end of hour 2. Geez. One last thing–make the teleprompter letters much bigger next year for your fading baby boomer hosts, please. You know you’re in trouble when your most polished presenters by far were both about ten years old. 😃 ---

Question about Forest Whitaker. Was there something wrong with his left eye? I know he just played a character on ER who had a stroke, so when I saw him on the show I thought it was for the character, but that didn’t happen in real life too did it? And I had no idea he was an operatic tenor! ---
