8 Corvettes fall in a hole

You should see the people who come for their big homecomings, or whatever they call them. Corvettes as far as the interstates run.

I went there a few years ago and while it was interesting, it did get kind of boring seeing essentially the same car over and over again since they had essentially the same body style for several years in a row.

Wired has a link with the security camera footage, for all your schadenfreude enjoyment.

Enjoy!

Does compensation mean penis size?

To say this with a straight face, I would have to wonder if you’re really a car fan or not.:dubious::smiley:

I do hear though, that two really worthwhile museums to visit are the Alfa Romeo and the Lamborghini ones.

And I would dearly love to see the Lotus museum (if they even have one, I’m not very sure)

Watching the remote control drone with camera footage I couldn’t help think it looked like a picture of a kids sandbox with matchbox cars left behind.

Exactly. It’s a little startling when the first car comes into view, giving you some idea of the scale. My first thought was “No, Calvin, I am NOT buying you any more cars!”

[Hijack] The caption underneath the video in the OP uses the word ‘swalled’ instead of swallowed. Is swalled a word in the US or is it a mistake? [/Hijack]

It’z uh missteak. We’ze slurr ar wurdz a lil butt thass ucsessiv.

:stuck_out_tongue:

The cars will live again. I’m not sure how the fiberglass bodies can be restored. They probably cracked open like eggshells. I guess with GM’s help they can do it some how.

Wonder what the car fax would say - probably “minor damage from incident with pot hole”

It’s Corvettes all the way down.

Any Heywood Banks fans in the audience?

If I had a bulldozer
There’d be lots of parking places
I’d just look for that brand-new Corvette
Taking up two spaces

I loved this comment.

“It was unique for a lot of reasons,” he said. “One, it’s full of Corvettes, and two that it was inside a structure.”

But it is rather odd for a sink hole to be totally contained within one room (with a wide definition of room).

Maybe not quite as odd as it looks. While I agree it’s a crazy coincidence that the hole managed to center itself on the structure, it does seem to extend under some of the ring foundation. Maybe the dome and ring foundation are strong enough to hold together even with some undermining? What collapsed away looks like slab sections set on pilings that were no longer supported by anything, only loosely attached to the upper structure.

Or maybe The Underminer is a Mustang fan.

Word is they plan to use a crane to recover all 8 but two have yet to be seen.

Hey, anyone who’s in town should stop off and see my new ZR-1. Give me a heads-up so I can wash it first.

Progress is being made:

The sinkhole is 60 ft to 70 ft wide and about 60 ft deep.

Okay, I didn’t really mean that. And there’s a sort of museum incorporated in the factory and company shop at Hethel, and a planned museum in London (technically dedicated to Colin Chapman rather than Lotus itself). There’s also the George Barber museum in Alabama which has the world’s largest private collection.
