I used to be a big Zep fan when I was a kid and didn’t know any better. Then I got a little older and I started questioning why Robert Plant screeched instead of sang. And then I saw Zep in concert, and boy, did they suck! ---

There’s always plenty of shitty music… all you have to do is turn your radio on. If you judge any decade by what dominated the airwaves… they all blew, sucked and swallowed. I’m in agreement with gobear and his disciples as far as what was good about the '80’s (and I’d like to add **The Minutemen** ), although, good lord there certainly was a steaming pile of Mike and The Mechanics all over that decade. BTW, for my money, the Yardbirds were better than Led Zeppelin, and the Rolling Stones were better than The Who (although they both started to go pretty limp by '78 or so… after Some Girls and Who Are You, respectively). Oh yeah, and best Hard Rock act ever is Motorhead… unless you want to send them off to the Heavy Metal category… in that case, The Stooges ---

A cautionary tale: We were hanging out at a female acquaintance’s apartment recently, when we pulled out her High School Yearbook. It was of interest to us b/c another friend of ours also went to HS with her and they remain good friends, so we were looking for pictures of the two of them. As we were looking through the signatures, we came across this gold mine written by the other friend, which they have yet to live down: “To Karen. Good luck, and remember: A life without Zeppelin is **NO LIFE AT ALL!!!** ” My point? I’d be careful with that Zeppelin love if I were you. ---

Rock was stale by 1977. How else could disco have taqken off so big in the USA? Not to dis Zeppelin, but modern music _had_ to happen. And **sexual chcolate** has left the building. ---

And another thing: since I was 25 or so, new music has gotten worse & worse every year…Does that mean I’m getting old? (There has been a lot of good surf guitar music released in the last 10 years.) ---

Sorry, I’d have to say that the 80’s were the best era for music (I believe Rolling Stone Magazine said the same thing…). There was so much experimentation going on…a lot of one hit wonders…much variety… Most things after that is…well…crap…IMHO… Besides…that was a era where people really took an interest in how they looked, too. Not like today where I feel the ‘in crown’ fall out of bed into what ever happens to be on the floor…(It is slowly getting better, but…) ---

Qwerty, can you cite proof that showns NONE of that album was recorded in 1980? I couldn’t in the cursory attempt I made… If it was recorded in the 80s it WAS in fact 80s music… Bonham died suddenly in September… Up to that point they HAD been touring, and as far as I know, spending time in the studio recording… ---

This is really silly, but I’ve never heard anyone be able to copy Robert Plant’s singing. People try at karaoke and fail. Trained singers can’t get his range or phrasing. One tribute band transposed songs down half an octave — even so, the singer couldn’t find Plant’s expressive range. When Freddie Mercury died there was a tribute concert which included members of Queen. Almost nobody could actually sing what Freddy Mercury could do with ease. Off topic, I know… ---
