I don’t know if it was a joke but i cracked up when Shatner said “You don’t want to be the first Oscars host to get a bad review!?” I don’t remember a host that got a good review! It seems like everyone always finds something to dislike.
I am not a huge fan of McFarlane. But, so far, I like his hosting.

One thing I dislike about the Oscars is that it reminds me of all the films I haven’t seen, but want to. So, yeah, Django and Argo, I can’t wait to see either of them. Guess I should check the listings.

I see the opening bit as MacFarlane’s attempt (IMHO successful, at least to some degree) to have it both ways: to show what he can do as a classy, classic, song-and-dance-guy host, and to give us an Oscars with MacFarlane’s brand of irreverent, over-the-top humor.

Oh, yeah, it was a joke. It fell flat as a pancake, but anybody who remembers James Franco and Anne Hathaway, or David Letterman, or pretty much anybody besides Johnny Carson and Billy Crystal, knew that was a joke.
I thought it was funny, too.

Paperman’s win for Animated Short wasn’t a surprise, but I was rooting for Maggie Simpson. We saw the Live Action and Animated shorts in the theater a couple of weeks ago. Death of a Shadow and Curfew were my favorite live action shorts.
I’m very happy with Christoph Waltz’s win! At least Django (my favorite of the Best Picture nominees) will go home with one Oscar.

Yay for Paperman and Brave. Although I think the short was more inspired than the feature film. I put Brave in the same class as Monsters inc. and A Bug’s Life; a step above Cars — a step below The Incredibles and Finding Nemo.
