We can discuss the event, the winners, the losers, and anything else in here. Does anyone know if the thing streams on the internet from ABC’s website? The Watch ABC app only is streaming it in 8 markets to very limited providers, none of which I have.
Anyway, despite how long it is and that we have millionaires congratulating millionaires, I like it and it is the only award show I watch.
Predictions? Anyone expecting an significant upsets? Cheering for or against anyone?

i was waiting for this thread to pop up.
i have seen almost none of the nominees for the major awards. but that won’t stop me from watching! with the above in mind, i’d like to see leonardo dicaprio snag best actor. he’s a hard worker. i’d be happy if meryl streep get best actress, but i don’t think she will because she just got it two years ago. they should give her an oscar every year for being so fabulous. 😃
can’t wait for the show to start!

I’ve voted in the Oscar threads, so I’ll mostly hold my peace until the telecast. I will say that IMO this is one of strongest fields in recent memory, even though I can’t call anything I saw particularly ground-breaking (though _Gravity_ on technical grounds and _12 Years a Slave_ for its subject matter come close).
Of the films up for major awards, I’ve seen more of them than I have in any of the past five years, but still missed _Nebraska_ and _Dallas Buyer’ Club_. Of the ones I have seen, I was the most impressed with _12 Years a Slave_, with _Captain Phillips_ running a distant second. So we shall see.

I just wish people did outrageous stunts, like Cher and her headdress, or George C. Scott refusing the Oscar, or Vanessa Redgrave talking about “Zionist hoodlums” and getting booed.
Or who could forget David Niven deadpanning(after the guy streaked across the stage) “You know, it’s really sad when a person has to gain attention by baring their shortcomings.”
Now all winners do is get weepy.

I just noticed that that list still has the Alone song was was disqualified. I’ve seen all the nominees except for August: Osage County, Ernest & Celestine, The Wind Rises, Cutie and the Boxer, Dirty Wars, The Broken Circle Breakdown, Omar, The Missing Picture, The Lone Ranger, Bad Grandpa, and the Documentary Shorts. We were able to see the Live Action and Animated Shorts at a theater last week.
I’m very relaxed because none of my favorites are nominated or if they are, stand a chance. I liked all the movies so I’ll be warmly happy for everybody.

Even those stunts only happened every now and then, and stunts still happen every now and then. Jack Panance’s one-armed push-up, Adrien Brody’s sweeping Halle Berry off her feet, others my brain is blanking. jennifer Lawrence falling wasn’t a stunt, but it was unexpected and real, and her reaction endearing.

I have no problem with Leto winning supporting actor, but Michael Fassbender left such an impression that when I saw a shot of him sitting directly behind Lupita Nyong’o, I wanted to yell at her to run away.
