9 year old girl accidentally kills gun range instructor with Uzi. (RO)

Is it family-friendly?

You forgot “Because 'Murica!”

Hey, that’s my line! Don’t plagiarize my plagiarism!

The NRA responds with “7 ways children can have fun at the shooting range.”

Is “Shooting your instructor” on the list?

I think that’s #5 on the list, right behind “Pretend your target is liberal/black/foreign-looking.”

Actually, one of the suggestions is to have “zombie-shaped cutout” targets. Now, the last time I checked a zombie stood upright, had two arms and two legs and a torso…sound familiar?

Guns are for cowards. Anyone who would hand a gun to a kid SHOULD be shot. He died doing what he loved; fucking-up the minds of children and other customers. The US is insanely in love with guns. It makes me sick.

Are you still pissed about your tea taxes, its been 240 years, give it up already.

Haftasay, I was expecting the customary shitstorm about people who call firearms by the wrong names, and thank you and good night the entire thread, but it seems not to have happened.

At least, not yet.

I just read somewhere that the range where this happened has now raised it’s minimum shooting age to 12 years old. That could be just for full auto firearms though.

The N.R A. Calls it “Getting ahead of yourself”.

Well the “shitstorm” that erupts is not usually over nomenclature. I don’t see shitstorms erupt because someone says “clip” instead of “magazine”

Most of the quibbling I have seen comes in when people think that assault weapons=machine guns. YMMV

I don’t want to speak ill of the dead but I can’t believe he would let a 9 year old handle a machine gun. Its monumentally stupid and when people do monumentally stupid things, bad things can happen.

Not me. I mean, intellectually, I can grasp the concept of recreational shooting, up to a point. But an automatic weapon for recreational shooting? ISTM that the big draw with that would be the adrenaline rush, and that places the enterprise uncomfortably close to the line where the participants begin to think of the weapon as a toy.

This is more or less correct. The retards in this thread want to create the straw argument that gun nuts say “Oh that’s not a M433A, that’s an M433B, clearly you don’t know shit, so you can’t talk on this issue”

The issue is usually more like “we need to ban those machine guns” “Well, those aren’t machine guns. A machine gun functions like this, and while these guns have a superficial resemblance to those, they function differently, like this”

To which comes the “YEAH YOU JERK OFF TO YOUR NOMENCLATURE, WHO CARES ABOUT THAT SHIT” sorts of replies.

It’s not an issue of nomenclature. No one is disqualifying you for using “clip” or “magazine” wrong. It’s more like, after some street racing accidents between neon-painted cars, you’re coming in and saying “these fast cars are too dangerous, we need to ban all the red cars”, and someone says “the color of the car actually isn’t related to the speed…” “SHUT UP I DON’T CARE ABOUT THESE TECHNICALITIES JUST BAN THEM”

This is one of the few issues on which the majority of the SDMB circle jerks themselves into a proud frenzy over their own ignorance. And then they have to cover up that actual flaw with exaggerated responses to straw arguments, like in this thread.

They should be embarassed, but they get propped up by people who share their ignorance and disdain all hooting their support, they actually feel quite smug about it.

Aaaand here we go.

SenorBeef: Bullshit. Or rather, “I wouldn’t characterize things in that particular manner.”

I’ll give an example:

Ok right, this occurred years ago (12!). But check out the wikipedia link: TEC-9 - Wikipedia

Yes, it’s a handgun that can be retrofitted into a machine gun, as casual viewers of Miami Vice and readers of the newspaper are aware of. But it sure doesn’t look like a typical handgun does it SenorBeef? And most revolvers can’t be easily converted into automatics to my knowledge. Note that 2 gunnuts responded to my rather detailed post (you can click the link) with basically a technical irrelevancy (you can click their links too).

Right and OMG! I mis-spelled it too!

The weirdest thing in this, to me, is that the parents were the ones who took the video footage. Which they must have released… WTF? A fucking tragedy* occurs where your daughter manages to kill someone, while you are filming, and your first move is to make the footage public?

  • for certain version of tragedy. My view is that the instructor deserves his Darwin award

I honestly don’t even understand the point you’re trying to make. You seemed to bring the subject of tek-9s out of nowhere in that thread, and listed them as if they were a category of firearm.

When you say “I don’t know if they allow tek-9s and handguns”, it sounds like you’re saying "I don’t know if they allow guns of type A or type B. It sounds like you don’t know what a tek-9 is, and maybe you’re thinking is a general term for a category like submachine guns. Or something.

So two posters asked you what it was you were trying to say, because, quite frankly, it was indeed an odd thing to say. It doesn’t help on top of that that during the 80s and 90s the tek-9 in particular was the target of a lot of scaremongering in the media, so it really does sound like you don’t know what you’re talking about.

But even if I’ve somehow misread that situation, it’s hardly a good example of the sort of point you’re trying to make.
