Me too.

I was a wee coffee-drinker myself, and nobody ever looked at me oddly. Hell, I was drinking tea when I was three or four.

My 13-year-old started drinking coffee drinks occasionally maybe a year ago. She’s more grownup than me because I still don’t like coffee. She recently said she was going to meet a friend for coffee at Starbucks and it made me laugh because I would never do that.

A year or two ago I said she could have a sip of my Mike’s and she seriously (too seriously) considered it but it made her nervous and she ultimately decided against it. She’s such a goody-goody sometimes.

To clear up a few things:

Yes, we have light rail. As mentioned the first line goes from Mall of America to downtown Minneapolis passing by the airport (the Blue Line). The second (Green Line) is about 95% complete (they’re just finishing up stringing the overhead wires) and goes between the downtowns.

Yes, Southwest flies here. They fly out of the Humphrey terminal so you might not have seen their planes. I can’t afford to fly Delta so their coming was a godsend (Sun Country doesn’t fly to nearly as many places and charges for baggage).

Thanks. We almost always fly Delta. I knew it would be Humphrey if they had service. I took AirTran out of here a few years ago, but other than that haven’t flown out of Humphrey in years. Now that they have the airline signs over the freeway like other cities, so you know which terminal to go to, I’d know what flies in and out, if I ever drove 494 any more.

> You know, I wonder if the coffee thing is cultural. My mother was a German American farm child - she was driving a tractor for haying at 10. Everyone in her family drank coffee. I drank coffee as a kid - not often - but it wasn’t a forbidden drink (I usually drank hers).

I dunno. My mom was a local farm kid and my dad grew up in West Virginia and I didn’t drink coffee til high school. My brother started at about 2 or 3 though. Certainly, my parents’ reaction to a child drinking coffee has never been anything but to offer them creamer.

Southwest bought out Air Tran that’s when their service started there.

It was a few years before the buyout. I first flew them in 2010 when we went to RDU.

Local newspaper is confirming the kid is the same one that stole a delivery truck and crashed it into a police car (what the grand theft auto was about) and notes in the understatement of the year, that “He’s got issues”.

And his parents didn’t report him missing until the next day. Yeah, I’d say this FAMILY has issues.

I was born in '62, my brother in '64. Mom & Dad gave us coffee as children. When we went out to eat, my brother would order it to the amazement of many a waitress. I didn’t drink it that much until my teens.

For a real treat, read the news article in the drippy, syrupy, nasally, halting, folksy, reallymotherfuckingannoyingly style of Garrison Keillor.

A quiet week in Lake Wobegone, indeed.

It sounds like this kid didn’t get much supervision from anyone- his parents or the airport and plane staff ☹

Child Protection Petition filed today:
Apparently he had a habit of staying out overnight without permission, including once where he was caught by police and refused to give his parent’s name so they took him to the local children’s home. Not that ti excuses it but it explains why the parents weren’t immediately alarmed.

St. Joseph’s Home for Children is where they take juveniles they pick up that aren’t delinquents or in need of hospitalization but can’t be immediately returned to their custodians.

Not impressed! Has anyone ever been to Minneapolis? I never had, until last month. I live in the eleventh ring of hell, i.e., Tucson, Az. To get a decent priced round-trip airline ticket, I had to fly in and out of Phoenix by way of some God-forsaken place like Atlanta or Minneapolis to get to St. Louis. If I were going to pull a fast one on some airline clerk,…Minneapolis would be the place to do it. The employees at that airport have the intelligence of a shower curtain rod.
