I don’t listen to The Orb often these days, but sometimes they are _just right_, and this is wonderful. I love Rickie Lee Jones’s voice on this.

I was a club kid in the 90s, and [Sorrow Town](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6H6NcLzHD8)by Peach was a song that always got us onto the floor. There were a lot of songs – ones that I may not have known the name of, but knew the beat 🙂
There was a fantastic mix of Sarah McLachlan’s [Possession](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQlTL-jBrYQ&index=3&list=RDGcyhDX-tIRU), as well.
Now I want to go dig up my old mixtapes.

Count this as an example of a thread not going how I expected. Not that it’s a bad thing! I welcome all your different booty-shaking grooves. I was just expecting a LOT more American top 40, hip-hop and pop. Consider me schooled, in a good way.

Maybe we should put this down to regional differences, but in the UK & much of Europe this stuff was very popular. It’s hard to over-emphasise how much people like dancing to obscure songs. But some of the most popular tracks were actually produced in America. New York House, New Jersey Garage, Detroit Techno, Chicago Acid, even the West Coast had a UK chart hit with Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State of Consciousness’. I’d hazard a guess that New York House was probably much more popular in London than it was in it’s hometown.

Just made the dealine – 1999’s _Smooth_ by Rob Thomas and Santana. As of 2013, according to Wiki, Smooth was the “2nd most seccessful song of all time.” I wonder how they figure this?
