For my Political Science class, I was given a copy of a program called “Microcase Student ExplorIt,” which is a software program that allows you to compare hundreds of variables against hundreds of others on maps of colonial times, states, counties, and many more. You can compare cocaine users per 1000 hispanics in Cass County, MO, if you wish, or high crime rates in areas with low Welfare rates and high property values, and so forth, or the % of hispanics in a high income area who voted for McGovern. It is really fucking awesome.

The blackest counties are:

A sad, but enlightening commentary is that the counties with the highest % of AmerInds, and Hispanics, respectively, are also the two poorest. :frowning:

Don’t tempt me, I could tell you the percentage of alcoholic Asians who make more than 100K per year, if I had to.

I can. The county I used to live in was 99.4% white as of 1986. There were zero black people in the county in 1980 but 2 black people in 1990. The county I live in now is 98.6% white as of 1996.

I am the only “white” person in my immediate family.

My high school (population 1500), averaged over the five years I attended, was 99.infinitely-repeating-six% white. We had two blacks and three Asians.

I too am 99.less-than-nine% white.

As for the elephant, they should have run it over with a train. That’s what St. Thomas, Ontario, did. (I looked for a link to the story of Jumbo, but even though the city has a life-size statue of the creature they don’t mention it at all on their web page. Odd, that.)

Out of 50,463 people, only 80 were listed as Black.

I think the “leper colony” thing of the 1860s made the census guys uneasy and they’ve avoided the place ever since. Yeah, amazing, something discouraged the census people! I should have my neighborhood declared a leper colony. :smiley:

Seriously, Kalawao is a county on paper only. Honolulu is the Asianest county in the US.

This town (the elephant one) is only about ten minutes from where I live. I assure you, the people that live there now are no smarter than they were then. The stupidity and ignorance of this area (and people in general) never ceases to amaze me.

By the way, the site I linked to about this incident is only concerned with the actual hanging. However, the good people of Kingsport (where the elephant killed the trainer) actually held a trial for the elephant where she was found guilty. You see, I only live here to help fight the ignorance that is so prevelant in these parts. I consider it a type of charity work. (Think domestic Peace Corps. :wink: )
