IIRC, They were norinco or polytech military issue rifles smuggled in through Mexico. I read it a while ago, so don’t take it as anything authoritative.

Ok, the guns piqued my interest, so I googled and found this kinda weird web site, but it has pictures of the rifles used. One is an after market AK (thumbhole stock) and the other is an SKS. Acccording to this site, these guys cooked off over a 1000 rounds during this gun battle. Picture.
