_The Stars My Destination Movie_

Since this is GQ I have to contribute something relating to the OP…

According to a Bester fansite “the iddividual” TSMD is in the works:

Not very encouraging… Haven’t seen Mortal Kombat, but
Event Horizon was a major disapointment.

Thank you for the link.

Though I may know better, hope springs eternal, and I would love to see a worthy adaptation of TSMD. At the very least, even a poor movie would renew interest in this worthy classic.

As for Heinlein’s Starship Troopers adaptation, I found the parody to be about a subtle as a fart in a bathysphere (I stole that phrase from somebody.)

More interesting I thought were the parallels drawn between Rico, Ibanez and Carl, and the various castes of bugs, as a metaphor for overspecialization.

In a movie, no. With a movie, well, yeah. I still have the glossy glossary that the theatre handed out to viewers when I saw Dune at a mall cineplex years ago. It is of course horribly abbreviated, but it at least tried, on two sides of one sheet, to hit as many important terms and concepts as it could.

Still, it’s rather sad when your movie has to be footnoted with a physical handout…
