# A better search engine?

How about this idea. Visit [http://www.google.com/](http://www.google.com/), select to ADD YOUR URL, input: [boards.straightdope.com](http://boards.straightdope.com)

Back to the main page, select, add FREE a [http://www.google.com](http://www.google.com) search box to your web site.

Presto! Major fast, accurate search engine for the straight dope board. One thing though, a search results page may have ads.

Anyone with a web site can use this idea. I did for my web site but I didn’t add the boards search because I didn’t think of it at the time & needed to test it first anyway.

How often does the Google spider update the database? I can very easily see it going though and indexing all of the threads, and then ignoring [straightdope.com](http://straightdope.com) for a few months, so you couldn’t use it to find new threads. With our traffic here what it is already, too, I’m not sure I’d want to invite a spider in to essentially open all fifty thousand threads at once.
