*Reconstructing Policy in Higher Education: Feminist Poststructural Perspectives *
I never carry a wallet, and when I go oujt, I carry the cards I need. I had a habit of going to the library without my library card, so I picked out a suitable book from the stacks, and put my card in it. It was always there.
Dumpster dinners and garbage gourmet?
I hollowed out a book (presumably it belonged to my parents) when I was a kid - it was ‘Venture to the Interior’ by Laurens Van Der Post. I chose it because of the apt name, but wish I’d read it first, in retrospect.
As a kid, mine was “Theodore Roosevelt’s Letters to His Children”.
Not quite what is asked, but related. I never was into mounting diplomas and such. So for the longest time I stored them in the biggest book we had - a historical atlas IIRC.
One day I got a call from someone telling me they had all my diplomas, bar admissions, etc. Apparently we had donated a bunch of books to a used book sale at the library without checking to see whether anything was in them. Never got around to getting them back…
I made one of these as a kid, too. Mine was one volume from an incomplete set of grocery store encyclopedias. Still seems like a pretty good book to not get picked up.

From the first page of Amazon’s engineering textbook section. The whole section is a gold mine of stuff no one will want to idly read. How about the EMI/EMC Computational Modeling Handbook?
Or Dianetics
I wouldn’t put anything in that.
Hey that’s probably a good one because everyone has read it already and won’t be picking it up to see “hmm what’s this about?” Just be careful if you have anyone under 18 in the house, they might nab it for a school assignment.
Sorry but that’s gonna be super obvious. I just felt very smart thinking to myself “Hmm, which could it be…? Hey! Why does this library have a lone book, H through K, of the 1982 Funk & Wagnall’s?” ![]()
LOL
But the problem with such a book is that too many people would be tempted to burn it, purely for humanity’s sake !
Taking a page, as it were, from Lord Vetenari:
Annals of the Great Accountants, Volume Three
The Art of the Deal.

The … Encyclopedia, Vol N-O.
I actually have one I made myself gluing the pages together and making it hollow on a band saw.
Erskines Speeches
It blends in well with all the various Colonial history titles.
Slight hijack: I just watched a Youtube clip from The Shawshank Redemption, where the warden discovers where Andy hid his rock-hammer that he used to escape: in a Bible…Exodus. Nice. ![]()
