It is on the news, at least here in Brazil: A boy went to the zoo with his dad and smaller brother. Seeing the lions and tigers he decided to jump the fence and start teasing the animals. After a few minutes he was being saved by paramedics because the tiger thought it would be a great idea to eat an arm. Boy lost his right arm. Dad says he wasn’t paying attention. Boy even had chicken bones on his pocket that were being used to feed the animals. HOW STUPID CAN A PERSON BE? ---

He was trying to pet the tiger through the cage in an area they weren’t supposed to be in. Don’t worry, the video doesn’t show the attack, just the kid trying to pet the cute tiger. Bad accident and I’m pretty sure at 11 I knew better. I’ll be pissed if the tiger is killed because of this, but that’s usually how it works in stupid human vs. animal attacks. ---

It seems that the zoo will not kill the Tiger. He is actually back to his original cage. But the boy’s father got a lawyer. They will sue the zoo. ---

I can understand the impulse that the boy likely felt. One time at my local zoo, a tiger laid down very close to the glass in the viewing area. One part of my brain began insisting, “MUST PET BIG KITTY!” ---

Kids do stupid shit all the time, this is a failing of the parent. The minimum age cutoff for a Darwin is 16. Giving an award, metaphorical or otherwise, to a dead 11-year-old child would be in fairly bad taste. But hey! Since he’s not dead, I guess it’s OK to point and laugh. ---

The kid has the small consolation of telling people he got his arm bit off by a tiger rather than all the other more mundane ways people lose limbs. ---
