> Luke identifies that as Hades in the Greek, which is the standard translation for the Hebrew/Aramaic _Sheol_, which literally meant “grave” or “pit,” and which, in ancient Jewish belief was an abode for all the dead pending judgement day. That particular parable also says that Lazarus went to “the Bosom of Abraham” which is not Heaven, but the [good part of Sheol](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bosom_of_Abraham). Essentially, Luke is referencing a Jewish eschatological belief in _Sheol_ as a temporary abode, a sort of holding tank, for souls waiting for the resurrection and judgement of the dead. This is a belief which grew to involve divisions for the good and the wicked, and where there was some temporary punishment for the baddies, but this place was not eternal. Eventually (under this eschatology) they’ll all get resurrected and judged, and then the bad people will just be annihilated.

I find it strange that people would need to be judged by a Supreme being who knew they would sin, and he created them with the flaw so they would or could sin. It seem like such a being would be a sadist, when he also created Satan and let him have power over people and even bet with Satan over Job!

Original Sin is a Christian (Irenaean) invention, not a Jewish belief and nothing that’s in the Bible. In Jewish eschatology, people are judged only by their deeds. There’s no inherited sin or flaw in Jewish belief.

Not that I disagree that Original Sin is a highly problematic concept, to say the least.

Why would they need a judgement at all, if God is an all knowing, all powerful, all loving being? God is supposed to have created everything and if humans have flaws He could have prevented sin, and there would be no need for a judgement.

“all those who believe differently should go to hell, or who believe that anyone deserves to go to hell.” Not so sure that is accurate. No one I know thinks you should or thinks you deserve to. On the other hand… there is a religion that believes non-believers should be killed. Have you posted that rant yet or are they off limits?
