The OP made a vague, linkless reference to what I guess was the black embarassment of the day and immediately got nods of recognition posts. OK, first off: “Chocolate New Orleans” Band name anyone? Also, we need to design a DESSERT named this, in honor of the city. I’m thinking that we should start with something like chocolate pudding, so everything on top will slowly begin to sink into it the longer it sits there. Then you have a brownie or chocolate cake with lots of nuts and multi-colored sprinkles on it (in honor of Mardis Gras, where a lot of nuts get together and get covered in little multi-colored beads 🆒 ) and then cover it in chocolate syrup (because all chocolate desserts need to be covered in chocolate syrup). Bonus points if you can somehow mold the brownie (or the frosting on it) into an aproximate shape of some identifiable portion of New Orleans. ---

Some of us saw it as the “Public figure who does not realize he does NOT have to keep on talking of-the-day”. In my case, I found myself yelling at my radio – not for the “chocolate city” which I found to be just a silly turn of phrase for the idea of “we’re not gonna rebuild it as gentryfied rich-folk theme park” (though I was amused by the backtrack into Hot Cocoa City), but rather for the “God is punishing us” quote, which by now any public figure who is deemed competent to hold office should know better. ---

I heard about this on the radio news yesterday. Today I got online to read the morning papers. It is on the front page of the _Torygraph_ and … that’s it. Nothing that caught my eye in the NY Times or Washington Post. Is the press giving this guy a ‘bye?’ ---

I don’t know what to think of the whole thing. Mayor John Street of Philadelphia said something once about “the brothers and sister are gonna run this city”. I can see the frustration but you’d think there’d be some tact somewhere. Then to backpedal is dumb. I don’t want to live there no matter what so mark me down as “i don’t care.” ---

I don’t think the “chocolate” mark was intended to signify “black people,” I think he was trying to use it as a metaphor for diversity (chocolate as a mixture). I think people who are trying to find racism in it are just looking for an excuse to be offended. The God remarks were stupid, but then, I think almost everything politicians say about God sounds stupid. ---

I don’t think he knows what he wants, but I’m pretty sure he’s offended the voting public and doesn’t have a chance to get reelected, if he ever allows an election. Throughout all of this, I didn’t really think too horribly of him. Anything’s better than the corrupt Morial administrations that had New Orleans politics locked up for 25 years. Now, he’s completely lost any respect I had left for him. ---

I’m not thrilled Nagin decided to evoke God but I really, really, really don’t want black, homeowning New Orleans evacuees to be gentrified out of the rebuilding and reconstruction of the city. And Nagin is seriously full of shit if he thinks spinning “chocolate city” to mean anything EXCEPT “Washington DC” or “black majority city.” Even urbandictionary knows what a [chocolate city](http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=chocolate+city) is.
