A cost of living comaprison thread. How much do these things cost where you live?

A theatre ticket

Oh, you meant for plays and operas and that sort rather then the local cinema? Then that would be $25 to … well quite a bit for good seats to nationall renown shows like Cats. I think local theater companies go from about $25 to $65.

I would guess most Americans wouldn’t consider a Honda Civic as medium, more like small. Tiny in comparison to many of the tanks people drive where I live. My relatively small mid-sized Jetta (Bora to you Yurpans) cost just under $20,000 a year ago.

$35,000 is for a mid range 3 series BMW or a top end Toyota with all the trimmings.

Let’s see at Tony Honda in Aiea 2002/2003 4 door Honda Civics have a MSRP of $18,000/$23,000 respectively. In town might be slightly higher.

Whats a pint?

A pint is two cups or 1/8 of a gallon or 16 ounces. I think that would make it 0.45875 litres. That’s the American version, anyway. A pint of beer can be slightly more than that, I think that runs up to 20 ounces.

Prices vary widely within my metropolitan area, so I’m going to go with the town I live in: Eagan, Minnesota, USA - Eagan is a second-ring suburb of Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Prices are in U.S. Dollars/British Pounds Sterling

Is there anything that’s horribly expensive? stone fruit (mangoes, nectarines, apricots, peaches…), ummm alcohol seems expensive…

Location: Central Pensylvania

A loaf of bread - $1.29

A glass of beer (half pint) in a pub/bar/cafe - 24 cent drafts last night!

Ticket to a major league sports event- I dunno

A medium sized new car (four door saloon type) - We don’t allow drinking and driving so our cars don’t have saloons in them. You can however get a Kia Sportage for like $14,000. The best is the free cars they’re offering now. Buy any Mitsubishi with no money down, and no payments until 2004, and then no interest ever. How do you beat that?

A theatre ticket - $19.99

A one bedroom falt (rental) - $150-$300 a month depending on quality and location.

A three bedroom House (to buy) -$79,000 to whatever you want to pay.

well so far Pennsylvania is the cheapest.

What’s the average salary there compared with the national average. Or do you all have cellars full of money, like Scrooge McDuck?

I’m in Indiana, US.

A glass of beer (half pint) in a pub/bar/cafe - $3-4ish, I think

A pint (or 1/2 litre) of milk - I only buy gallons, $2.39 off sale

a dozen eggs - up to $1.89

A one bedroom falt (rental) - $500ish, in my college town)

A three bedroom House (to buy) - $125,00 to start, most higher

I buy everything on sale or discount, so it’s hard to remember most of these prices!
