Congrats on **Tatersdaughter’s** job, and that’s revolting about the store. Yuck. Morning, everyone. Not a great night, but compesated for by a late sleep-in till seven. Mr. Lissar went back to work today, armed with antibiotics and a puffer. Today: Laundry (always) Take out the old microwave Make more baby food Tidy up the kitchen a bit Put sealant along the back of the kitchen sink Buy cat food Do some cooking Eat a vegetable! ---

Good morning! I have to be on a borrowed machine (hopefully only) today. Bummer. (My work computer.) Bad news on the home front. Remember my son went to a wedding last weekend? It turns out because he couldn’t get anyone to cover for him on the 4th, he has been let go. Even though he asked for the day off about two months ago. And he asked everyone to cover his shift, and was successful on Saturday. Why couldn’t they have scheduled him off, for crying out loud?? :mad: So yesterday he went and applied at another restaurant, and will start training on Saturday. But that means no tip money until they put him on the floor, which might be several days. So that’s good that he got another job so quickly, but what assholes. Oh, yeah, his future roommate is going to be working there, too! Silver linings, I guess. \ ---

Damned if I know why the baking soda works… but it does. A friend’s naturopath recommended it to her a few years back, and I gave it a try thinking it might help (and, at the very least, couldn’t possibly make things any worse). **Taters** , I’ve seen some pretty nasty fitting rooms in my life, but that story just takes the cake. I feel very very sorry for whichever employee had to deal with that mess at closing time. **donkeybear** , I’ll stick with BLTs, thanks. Me and PB aren’t on speaking terms. **Rebo** , sounds like your son might be better off in the long run. Any employer who refuses to respect their employee’s requests for time off (especially those accompanied by legit reasons for needing the day off) is not someone I’d want to work for. Hope he’s back on the floor and earning tips soon. I studiously ignored Mt Clothing last night because I spent an hour on the phone with Mumsy Dearest. _ **warning: ridiculous dysfunctional family drama ahead** _ Seems like she and Sister Dearest are on the outs as a result of the drama-fest that was my birthday. ☹ Apparently, my sister decided that my mom’s decision not to take sides in the whole thing was the same as my mom turning against her (she’s always had one of those “if you’re not with me, you’re against me” mentalities). Some very nasty emails were exchanged, primarily from sister’s side, and my mother is an absolute wreck. Now, Sissy is threatening to move to Boise once she’s done her fall semester, rather than stay put until she’s done her PhD in the spring… which is bad in so many ways. She’d be dependent on her shmuck fiance for the six months she needs to finish her study and defend her paper, and since he’s unemployed, I’m pretty sure that would be messy in the extreme (not to mention she’s drained a lot of her funding travelling to see him regularly). Plus, since my mom was kind enough to buy my sister a house to live in while she was studying, there will be the hassle of selling an empty home in a city that neither Mumsy nor myself actually lives in. My eyes have rolled so far back that they’ve come around to the front again. Oy. Anyhoo, assuming work doesn’t require my presence this weekend, I’ll probably hop on a train and go visit Mumsy. This whole mess breaks my heart, but I just don’t know what else to do about it. ---

Taking a break before my head explodes. AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!! I wish people would speak more clearly. See, I’m checkin’ voice apps against written apps to make sure everything is said and done and all legal like and all that… This means I _must_ be able to understand what people say. I’m gettin’ a lot of mumblemumblemumblemumblemumblemumble and it. just. makes. me. nuts. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!! At least so far there have been no major mistakes that I have to get folks to correct. Maybe that will hold. Happy Hump Day! The week is half over – or almost anyway; noonish will mark the middle of my particular work day. I am satisfactorily caffeinated. And I have officially hired a new writer for the blog! I got him all set up this morning with account info and an E-Mail address and laid down the rules and guidelines and all that good stuff, so I’ll see how well he does. If his E-Mails are any indication though, he will at least be able to spell and form coherent sentences, which puts him far ahead of the last two contributors we tried out. Dude’s even had past blogging experience – with WordPress even, so bonus. Maybe someday we might even be able to pay the dude. 🙂 So yesterd— Wait. What the hell is with this trout and what did I miss? Has someone been using the [trout cannon](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=8362538&postcount=22)? Ugh. It smells. Anyway, it rained like a bastage yesterday. One minute, dark skies, the next, a torrential downpour. Didn’t last long but it was cool to watch – safely, from indoors. Now today I head to work and it’s bright and sunny and hot and muggy. Waltz through Highland Farms to pick up a couple of things and a coffee, come out, and it’s all dark and broody, like the sun never happened The weather is weird hereabouts. Also, why are people never prepared when they call me at work? A prime example of such unpreparedness from just 10 minutes ago: Me: “MyWorkPlace, Mindfield speaking.” Him: “Hi, BuddyGuy from RepairShopPlace, I’d like to place an order.” Me: “Sure. What’s your account number?” Him: “Arsebucket Schenectady Bagel.\*” Me: “Great. Is there a P.O. number?” Him: “Uh…yeah, there is. Um…sorry, you caught me off guard, just give me miiinuuute heeeere… \” Me: “…” Come on, dude. You called me to place a PO and I caught _you_ off-guard when I asked you for its number? Sheesh. And the number of people who don’t even have their account number handy is even worse. [sub]\* Not his actual password, so don’t get any ideas.[/sub] I never did get some of yesterday’s to-dos done. I’ll have to shove them over to today’s list. **Swampy** - I get that here from time to time too – especially Newfoundlanders. Most of them I understand just fine, but there are those few with that thick Newfie accent who speak so rapidly that your brain doesn’t have time to parse and identify individual words. I have to get them to slow down and repeat themselves so I can keep up. Oh, and PB&Bacon? Abomination! **Mahna[sup]2[/sup]** - That can’t be a legitimate threat. _Nobody_ moves to Boise on purpose. But I’m sorry to hear about all the drama – it sounds like your sister hasn’t yet outgrown all of that teenage angst. Morning. ::yawn:: Good news here. (Well, minor good news, but I’m overly excited anyway. And I thought I’d posted this yesterday but I don’t see it anywhere.) We (at work) got an email yesterday that for the rest of the summer we can wear jeans to work! Yay! OK, so it’s really not that exciting, but… well, these are the things that make us happy at work. Today’s to do list: - Pull customer list for a survey. - Run some code stuff for coworker who’s out. - Pull info for a vendor. - Other work, work, work. - Go home. Make stuffed peppers for dinner. Maybe polenta on the side. - Maybe some appreciatin’ - Try to get more sleep than I’ve gotten for the last 4 or 5 nights. ::yawn:: ---

Oh, **Mindy** –you wouldn’t believe the calls I have to [del]endure[/del] make at work. People who don’t know they’re having surgery at all. People who are very suspicious of you over the phone. People who won’t stop what they’re doing to talk to you for 5 minutes (they’re washing their car, driving, using power tools–that sort of thing. Women are usually the drivers and I tell them I’ll call them back), my favs are the people who are fine with coming into to have surgery, but have NO idea what kind of surgery they’re having! :eek: I have another list, but no time to post it right now. ---
