Fortunately, I have taken to storing posts in Notebad before I hit “Submit.” Here’s the OP. If you’re going to flirt with each other and make cute, sly references and double-entendres, that’s just swell. Thing is, there are times and places for it. [IMHO is not one of them](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=130408). Though my personal opinion is of no interest to anyone but myself, I feel compelled to state it. I have nothing against flirting. Flirt your ass off. Fling your breasts in each others’ faces and teabag whomever you like; no sweat off my nonexistant balls. The thing is, I don’t open threads based on who posted them; I open them based on the subject. It’s fucking annoying to get interested in a title and open a thread and start reading it, and suddenly run into a rash of notes being passed around a high school cafeteria. You’ve got all of MPSIMS at your disposal. You’ve all (I’m assuming, bad idea but I’ve got to give a shout out to opposable thumbs, here) an adequate vocabulary, and are able to choose words which will give some indication of the contents of the OP when you’re starting a new thread. **Please** use them, and let those of us who are trying to avoid the rampant spray of homones keep our clothes clean. If I wanna get dirty, believe me, I know where to go. ---

Other than the “LOOKIE ME” and “I’m pathetic” posts, there have been a couple of interesting notes. I know I’ve been communicating online in one way or another for 17 years, and because of that I know there’s a considerable difference between how you INTEND to sound online and how you ACTUALLY sound. I mean, the thing I think I’ve heard most often upon meeting people in person is, “Wow, you’re a lot nicer than I thought you’d be.” They are obviously delusional, but this demonstrates the difference between impression an actuality quite nicely. I agree with Hama, but I’m sort of with Uke. What COULD have been an interesting thread and OP about perception vs reality, was actually, deep down, one poster asking for everyone’s impressions of HERSELF. I’m also with hardygrrl in that I used to be a big flirty attention whore on the boards until I was educated in how monotonous and ridiculous it was becoming. I’ve cut back considerably, and actually enjoy posting now MORE. All I can say to the gals of this board regarding flirtatiousness is…be careful what you wish for. I dug my own hole and couldn’t get out for a looooooooong time. In fact, just a few weeks ago I had a thread started about some health questions and someone started flirting. it gets real tiresome. ---

I daresay, **Hama** that this will be one case where you’ll just have to bypass the poster as this is their posting tendency. I got a headache just trying to read the OP. In this case of personal verification, as many times as it has been brought to the attention of this particular poster, it’s just not gonna stop no matter how nicely you ask. I often choose to open a thread or not based on the person who started it. I never open anything by that poster any more. But I looked at the thread because you brought it up. I haven’t found that titles are a completely sound indication of whether there’s interesting content; often enough, some clever Doper thinks of an interesting aspect of the subject, and that in turn starts a sub-thread that’s relatively relevant to the general Doper. I’ve taken just to not reading posts that are started by certain people. But putting them on the “exclusion list” seems really contrary to the spirit of listening to other people’s opinions (even if they are woefully, criminally ignorant 😉 I’m of the opinion, such as that expressed by hardygrrl, that this site is unique because there are truth-seekers here who have nowhere else to go for the truth. Isn’t the SDMB IRC channel a better place for straight flirting? Fwankly, the flirting business bothers me less than the “Tell me how you feel about popular icon X?” threads. These dopes often aren’t looking for anything except others to tell them how great their personal tastes are. ANY dissenting opinion is treated as heresy. That’s as far from seeking truth as it gets. ---
