# A diplomat's child is not a citizen of their country?

There’s a whole thread about this. [This woman](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/is-hoda-muthana-a-us-citizen-should-she-be-allowed-back-in-the-us/829942/188) has been ruled to not be a US citizen even though she was born here, because her parents were diplomats. The facts of her particular case were complicated, but nobody disputes the basic principle that birthright citizenship doesn’t apply to diplomats’ kids.
