Sorry, no cite, but I remember reading a while back that 70% of men and 40% of women (or comparable numbers) don’t wash their hands after playing with their goodies. I imagine at least that many don’t wash their hands after wizzing. Of course, I have the theory that most men I see washing their hands only do so because other men are present and don’t bother when their alone unless they made a mess.
Of course, there’s always the opposite argument: I know where my dong has been all day, but I have no idea where my hands have been; if anything I should wash my hands BEFORE I take a leak. Of course, that one never seems to go over very well.
I will say, however, that if the guy has just finished dropping the kids off at the pool whether he toweled off afterward or not, there’s something nasty going on either way.
Although, this leads me to wonder how you handle handshakes at functions where all there are are porto-potties. The peers can’t wash, and the others are definitively worse… how do you handle those situations?
What I don’t understand is this:
-When we have a thread about washroom hygiene, the doper majority opinion appears to be somewhat obsessive and over-concerned with dangers that are quote possibly mostly imaginary.
-When we have a thread about food hygiene, the doper majority opinions seems to be 'Oh, well if it smells OK, it’s probably OK to eat" and “Well, that’s nothing - I tossed a roadkill badger in the trash one sunny Saturday in August, but on Monday I was hungry so I took it back out and ate it raw, and I was OK”
Now it might just be that the subset of people that speak up in the washroom hygiene threads hardly intersects with the subset that speak up in food hygiene threads, but it still boggles my mind a bit that, as a board, we have this almost insanely frightened stance on one hand, and on the other, dangerous laxity. Who will bring balance?
Also: Of course washing your hands after taking a dump is a good idea, but:
-Running your fingertips under a trickle of water isn’t going to do anything
-Even washing with ordinary soap isn’t going to remove all harmful bacteria
-Running your hand through your hair (or combing it), or scratching your head is going to leave your hands covered with bacteria. Admittedly not fecal bacteria, but they can still make you ill under more or less the same circumstances.
