Wow, I get to amplify on one of **Qadgop** ’s answers? You forgot the dragon in _Farmer Giles of Ham_ (I don’t remember his name). After all, **NoClueBoy** didn’t ask for Middle Earth dragons, but rather Tolkien dragons. Then again, pretty much all that dragon does is nearly get his tail whacked off by a magical sword, so maybe **NCB** wouldn’t like it so much. ---

I have to be the SOB who cites the Rankin-Bass animated ROTK… RE the fate of the Hobbit race, Gandalf notes that Frodo is taller than Bilbo while Merry & Pippin are even taller, concluding that hobbitry will eventually merge into humanity… "And it may be that those reading of your adventures will think ‘might there be some hobbit in me?’ " After seeing Jackson’s FOTR, a friend wanted to watch my video of cartoon ROTK & at that point asked “Ted, might there be some hobbit in you?” I responded- “I’m fat, lazy & live in a hole at the end of the hall. The conclusion is obvious.” _G_ ---

Ah, hell. I remember that too. Now. Yes, hobbitses are still with us. They all tend to work in IT. btw, any want to buy me the HOMES volumes? It’s not a money thing, I just haven’t gotten a round tuit yet. ---

**Friar Ted** I watched Rankin Bass’ Hobbit and ROTK countless times as a kid(I still have the story book and record set). But, Gandalf never says anything remotely like that in the book. Merry and Pippin are tall for hobbits, but this is due to a drink the Ents gave them. I was happy to discover that many of the songs used in the animated films are in the books. ---

\*\*Boff of youse’s right. **It’s obviously not canon.** But I remember going over that line with my fellow hobbitses after first seeing that cartoon. (Unless I’m just conveniently remembering after the fact. Which is a possiblity) Of course, at that time, I didn’t have the resources available now to find a definitive answer. Anyone volunteerin’ to get me those HOMES? _crickets chirping…_ Ah well… {gets out VISA} ---

I didn’t mean to imply that Gandalf didn’t say that line in the animated film. He definitely did. I love that line. ---

They actually find a half-decent tune for “Far Under Misty Mountains Old”, and then they go and have Gandalf _recite_ most of it. I mean, what’s the point in that? ---
