A football player and his boyfriend went out to dinner...

I think we need to find a sexual practice to make it a euphemism for, just to muddy the trail.

No need to invent one–it already exists. Look it up at urbandictionary.com. Warning: it’s NSFW.

{snip} The fact that he was out in public openly with his boyfriend is not the main point of the story is, I guess, the best part. {snip}

I surmise the reason why the incident was reported with that level of detail had more to do with the arrested man being an ex-player with the town’s NFL franchise than with his being gay. Which, IMO, is as it should be.

[Digression]Although, I don’t quite get why he was charged with felony domestic abuse if they “weren’t in a formal relationship” (much less, living together). But that’s a discussion for another thread.[/digression]

Yes I do, sorry (conflating with Great America amusement parks, I guess).

SpoilerVirgin, the point for me was not that he was in San Francisco, but that he was a (former) professional football player. So yes.
Roddy

Nope. Everybody there is still pasty as ever.

Ah, that makes sense. I guess I’ve seen enough stories about former athletes being gay that it didn’t make much of an impact. Now such a story about a current athlete in a major team sport would be a much bigger deal (although I sincerely hope that when I do read that story, it’s not about domestic violence).

I actually did check, once I was safely away from work, because I’m not sure I would be surprised at any phrase turning up there. I didn’t see an entry, though. (Or one for “muddy the trail”, the lack of which actually surprised me.)
