Hopefully someone can confirm/refute this: Is it true that, although a Reaper’s capsaicin itself isn’t damaging, it causes the body to respond by having blisters welling up all over the internal lining of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, and intestines, and those are easily ruptured and infected, and _that_ is the real danger of the peppers? ---

Just to add to the general humor, [give a listen to this podcast](https://kuec.libsyn.com/episode-197-addendum-fear-the-reaper-redux), where a dude who likes and eats hot peppers on a regular basis tries a homegrown Carolina Reaper. He only eats a bit of the flesh, as he puts it, not even the seeds. My three favorite quotes from the 'cast are: _“Oh, this thing’s murderous. I don’t know what you did to it, but it wants to kill me.”_ _“I think my tooth is on fire!”_ _“Oh, GOD! what have I done to myself!”_ ---

Sometimes I feel like people forget how wide a range of heat tolerance people have to these things. Do you guys remember the Taqui one chip challenge from a little while back? I know some clips were posted here of people eating the chip and throwing up. They are made with the Carolina Reapers, rated at 1.5 - 1.9 million Scoville, depending on the batch. Well, in [this clip two CBS anchors try it](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dpiqq1EtHMs&feature=youtu.be&t=65), and one doesn’t even flinch from it, while the other is in agony and run out of the room, perhaps to vomit in the bathroom? So when people complain about stuff being stupid hot for no good reason, or they are there just for machismo, that’s not true. Some people do actually enjoy the heat, or are so inured to it that they need these types of peppers to experience that pleasant mouth burn. I know my own tolerance varies wildly depending on how regularly I am eating habaneros and peppers of that nature, but there is some sort of baseline level of tolerance that rises over time. Like take Tabasco. I remember crying as a kid the first time I had, but for the last couple of decades, it’s been on the mild side of hot sauces to me, little more than vinegar with a bit of heat. ---

**UPDATE** A Doper has asked me privately to reveal whether or not I ate the pepper. I am sorry to say that I did not. After reading this thread, and watching a fellow game just about call 911 after eating a sliver the size of a grain of rice, I decided whatever the DM was offering wasn’t worth it. Reminds me of that show, “Hot Ones”. On the show guests eat increasingly spicy wings (maxing out at at least Carolina Reaper level) while being interviewed; in your case you are playing role-playing and board games. ---
