Nu? It’s 15°F outside, it’s snowing like a…ahem…like crazy, the cat’s frantic because I won’t let her out into a blizzard, and I’ve gotten four e-mails already from various members of my project team, including the lead analyst, saying that they won’t be coming into the office today (my own e-mail, FWIW, went out an hour ago). Reminds me of the Blizzard of Eighty-Three! That one was forecast accurately well in advance, however; everybody got caught flat-footed by this storm. About 7 or 8 inches in N VA so far. ---

Rick - I couldn’t believe the dummies at OPM took until 7:30 to close things. By then I had 11 inches of snow, so I wasn’t going anywhere. But if I had, I would’ve been most of the way there by the time word went out. Go figure. ---

I may be grousing about OPM, Sue, but that was mostly commiserating with Rick. I’m enjoying a pleasant, leisurely unscheduled day off. Can’t beat it with a stick. ---

RT, As happy as I am to heap scorn upon the OPM, in this case I understand their dilemna. Last night, the news was saying 1-3 inches. This monring, 4-6. By 7:30 they were up to 6-8. So OPM was simply trying to keep up. My company pretty much follows the Feds’ guidelines, since we work side-by-side with the civil service folks, on site. By the way: got home, and I couldn’t get back up the driveway… so I parked on the driveway and came inside. Three minutes later my neighbor knocks on my door to tell me my car’s slid back down into the street. Sheesh. So now the driveway is RESHOVELED. And the car is in the carport. I have over seven inches of snow in the backyard. And it’s still coming. Snow angels? Bite me. - Rick ---

at least when we had that very unlovely 30" in chicago we all got a chance to go out & get to know our neighbors. no one could go anywhere. you stuck around home & laughed @ the cars that tried to skid along the street. almost no looting of empty stores even. lighten up, satan. go build a snowman with a tail & a pitchfork! ---
