A genuine question about Kamala Harris’s “DEI hire” status

Another way of seeing it: it’s all they have on Kamala, so far, anyway. Unless you count her laugh.

In my view it is important to combat the ‘DEI = unfair’ lie that the right is pushing so hard. DEI isn’t ‘white men will always (unfairly) lose out,’ but the right will sell it as such. And if there’s nothing out there to counter the lie, the lie will gain traction with voters we need.

Agree on DEI more generally. I don’t think we should take the whole Harris=DEI hire bait, tho.

I’ve also seen “Justice, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion”, and if you don’t care about the acronym, “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging” is also common.

President Biden promised he would put a Black Woman on his ticket he did. People of other genders and races were not considered. It was a bad thing to for him to do and I still hold it against him. That said, Harris seems to be a fine candidate and might make a great president.

I actually also recall Biden saying he would appoint a black woman VP (and I assumed it would be Harris since she had by far the best resume among black women). But I checked it out and I was having a Mandela Effect moment: the multiple posters upthread are right. He said that about a Supreme Court pick, but he only said he was going to pick a woman VP.

Why not “Belonging, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Neutrality”.

Well, the Harris=DEI attack can be quickly countered, and then you can move on to other topics.

One possible counter: “Harris wasn’t hired—she was ELECTED. Elected five times, and won five times—that’s five times as many elections as Trump has won.”

2020–ran for VP and won
2016–ran for Senator from California and won
2010-ran for California Attorney General and won
2007–ran for reelection as SF DA and won
2003–ran for DA of San Francisco and won

No-Just a woman.
I certainly hope it sticks this time.

Yep. That’s the way to shut it down.

“We’re the Strategic Homeland Initiative, Enforcement and Logistics Division. What does that say to you?”
“It says that someone really wanted our acronym to be SHIELD”.

And yeah, I do think that Biden’s phrasing on “I will pick a female running mate” was a bit clumsy, and probably did cost him some politically. Better would have been something like “I’ve narrowed it down to a short list, and the top names on that list are all women”. Make it all about the qualifications. And if “being a woman” happened to be one of those qualifications, don’t say that part out loud.

You caught me.

“DEI” ranks right up there with “critical race theory” as a saying that, if someone thinks this is how things are done, they are not to be taken seriously.

And was a key part of the team that defeated Trump! Chew on that smartasses!

I’d vote for that because every time I hear “DEI” I wonder how an obscure meme about Dabs became a cultural phenomenon. Or else, “Drain Experts, Inc.”:

Stranger

Hah! That’s a clear winner. How can anyone oppose a JEDI?

I’m so embarrassed at how badly I got whooshed. I need to turn in my custom lightsaber and my beta tester copy of Star Wars Galaxies. I no longer deserve them.

“Always two there will be, a Master and an apprentice…”

Where does “woke” fit into this discussion? And never forget about all the social justice warriors and antifa still raging a war out there.

To quote Lee Atwater, who knew a thing or two about Republican dirty tricks seeing as he invented most of them;

It’s just been the same euphemism trolley with them for 70 years - as soon as the normals realize their latest scare-phrase is just a dog whistle, they move on to the next one.
