Well, a blue finish and walnut grips make it look old-school! In actuality, it’s not ‘old-school’. It just happens to be one I want, and I was making a wish-list, so… (FTR, I do have a MADE IN ITALY Beretta 92FS in the standard black finish.)
Thanks for that. It had been a while since I looked at the markings, and I couldn’t quite make it out in the photo. I’ve ben preoccupied, and haven’t pulled the piece out to look at it.
It is very nice. The seller did a good job on the photos. One day I may actually shoot it!
The Fiocchi ammunition is the only commercially available stuff that I’m aware of, but its performance is similar to the Mk II (ie smokeless powder) military service cartridge, albeit with a LRN projectile instead of an FMJ one.
Did you see the most recent episode of Sons of Guns? You need to get one of those RedJacketFirearms suppressed .458 AR-15’s and head out to Texas, Arkansas or Louisiana to help solve the problem of feral hogs. Those things are a destructive invasive species harmful to both native species and modern agriculture.
Seriously, you would be doing a service to the farmers and ranchers. And a 600 pound hog bearing down on you with 6 inch incisors is not something to be disregarded lightly.
Good luck on the C96 unless you have a big bucket of cash or get really shit-ass lucky at an estate sale. Even ratty specimens that will require (at the minimum) the barrel to be bored out and relined before they’ll be shootable are getting pricey. Something that is not only in shootable condition, but also includes the stock/holster, is going to have a price in the thousands. There are lots of Chinese-made copies that were imported in the 90’s floating around too, that are of, shall we say, indifferent quality and that I wouldn’t be willing to fire.
Really do your homework on this one before you reach for the checkbook.
