While Halliburton undoubtedly helped design the cementing program, I guarantee the program was reviewed and vetted by BP personnel. I’ll just mention that some of the other service companies involved with the operation in question (including a different Halliburton subsidiary) could potentially share some responsibility for the blowout, but I’d rather wait for the results of the investigation that will surely take place before jumping the gun on blame. What I will say for now is that it was BP’s well, and therefore they own the consequences. ---

I have to admit, my first thought was “ecoterrorists.” The timing is just so . . . just so. You know? El Kabong - is it possible that this may have been a purposeful bombing of some sort? Or is the failure so deep and/or structure specific that it would have had to be built in - i.e. no way to choose exactly when it would blow? ---

Do you think terrorists have submarines with weapons parked offshore the U.S.? Or that they just rented a dinghy and sailed up to the rig and lobbed a huge bomb on it without anyone seeing them?
