Most of the stuff purporting to be humorous batting around the Internet is pretty stupid and/or inane. Now and then, however, a pretty funny piece will show up. Has there ever been any thought given to having a Humor Board? It could just be called: 😃😃😃😃 ---

You mean a humor forum? We already got it covered. One-liners (First magician: Who was that lady I sawed with you last night? Second magician: That was no lady, that was my half sister.") go in the forum called MPSIMS. Satires (“What foods these morsels be!”) are a form of arts and entertainment, so go in Cafe Society. Question/answer jokes (like Knock-knocks, or “How many Swedes does it take to screw in a lightbulb?” “Swedes are too large to screw in lightbulbs, they screw in saunas.”) go in IMHO. No jokes are allowed in the Pit. Simple. ---

I like the way they do it on the Something Awful forums. Funny threads get moved (or copied) to another forum called Comedy Gold-mine. It works like a humor forum but the stuff is actually funny. ---

This thread is getting interesting, but no word about a new board. Am 'dere a moderator out 'dere??? So, let me rephrase my original inquiry: is it OK to post jokes on other Boards? I rarely see any. For your edification: I know **all** lawyers are not assholes, but… Guy walks into a bar (boy, that hurts), orders a drink, and says to the bartender, “Y’know, all lawyers are assholes!” Another guy at the end of the bar says, “Hey, I resent that.” The bartender looks at him and asks, “Why, are you a lawyer?” “No,” replied the guy, "I’m an asshole. ---

If by “new board” you mean “new forum,” the answer is no, we’re fine where we are. ---

To expand on what **C K Dexter Haven** said, we are generally loathe to create new fora until and unless a definite need is seen by the mods. This need must make it more difficult to moderate the other fora, and must make it more difficult for members to find and post interesting threads. It really takes a pretty obvious deficiency in our system to make a new forum a reality. Suffice it to say, a single thread in ATMB isn’t going to cut it. Cafe Society is the only forum created during my time as a member here. Prior to CS, threads about the arts and entertainment were spread out over four fora and pretty unsuited to each: Factual questions (“Who played the Man with No Name in _A Fistful of Dollars_?”) ended up in GQ, polls (“What is your favorite Star Trek series?”) ended up in IMHO, general kibitzing (“_Voyager_ is coming to DVD! Whoopee!”) ended up in MPSIMS, and rants (“That last season of _E.R._ really sucked!”) ended up in The Pit (back before the Pit mods really cracked down on non-Pitworthy rants). This wouldn’t have been a huge problem, in and of itself, but there were so many arts and entertainment threads that they crowded things off the front page in many fora (MPSIMS was _really_ hopping for a good while, with threads disappearing in minutes) and generally made organization and moderation a royal pain. Then CS was created and the pressure was alleviated. That is the level of need you require to get a new forum created, and I simply don’t see it in the SDMB as it stands. ---

True hmour is almost invariably generated when it is not the end of the discussion, but a by-product, whether deliberate or not. ---
