I’m guessing that most of the doomsayers (like all good fortune tellers) have hedged their bets in some way. However, there must be some people (religious leaders, survivalists, tech heads, etc.) who have talked themselves into a corner. Who needs to eat their words? * * * Elmer J. Fudd, Millionaire. If you listen to short-wave radio on WWCR the Christian Identiy kooks Bo Gritz & John Statmiller have been preaching doom and gloom for years. They sell dehydrated food, hand cranked radios, weapons and best of all 24k gold chains with detachable links you can use as currency when the world economic system collapses. These people make Rush L. look like a liberal. They started to ease off some from total disaster a few weeks ago by stating if doomsday is averted it is because the few good Christians left prayed for his mercy. ---

The New Media. They’ve been scaring the hell out of people ever since this whole pile of shit began, with their perky articles about the failure of all power distributions systems, the banks and potential rampaging in the streets along with, at the last minute, horrific suggestions of masses of enemies of America sneaking in to bomb the place at random and the potential for Russia’s rusty computers to go ‘BLURRP!’ at 2000 and fire off their equally rusty nuclear weapons, which somehow still seem to be aimed at the US. Then the Y2K preachers, as usual, hammering on the end of the world and encouraging their followers to stock up on food, clothing, and, of course, guns. Now, all of those websites which sell dehydrated foods, military surplus, and camping supplies have MADE their bundle for the next 10 years and will have to reduce their prices by 50% back down to the normal rate. I wonder how many generators are going back to the stores and if there will be a sale on them? My old one needs replacing with something more modern. (Mine is pre- Y2K.) ---

wait until later on MOnday to make any decisions. Most paychecks come in around then because of holiday. Paycheck systems were a real BIG thing that needed updating because databases weren’t y2k ready. ---

As for generators, I hope there are some cheap ones in the classifieds. For the farm we have a large one that is 20 plus years old, the thing has been so reliable there is no way we’re getting rid of it. I have a small one I picked up 5 or 6 years ago for working on small projects. If I see a mid size one, that could run my house, relatively cheap I might be tempted. We still have a couple outages a year from snow, ice or wind. ---
