A little brutal honesty, please?

If you were living on your own, instead of at home still, I don’t think this would even be an issue; the car would be yours, to do (or not do) with as you see fit, and not assumed to be part of the family pool of cars. Maybe your parents are looking at it from the point of view of “We’re paying for your education, food, and housing, (and possibly even more) so you will contribute to the family as needed while you’re here.” Just a thought, FWIW.
