Oddly, so far the Trump administration seems to be about in line with the Obama ad as far as protecting gun rights. They argued against letting non-violent offenders own guns, which the NRA was in favor of. (I am neutral on this one, I see points on both sides).

It is possible the Trump admin will be a friend to Gunowners, but so far they are not.

_Heller_, the best SCOTUS dec for gunowners _ever_ was decided during the Obama admin.

The part I don’t understand is why they haven’t yet rolled back the Medicaid expansion. I mean, I’m glad they didn’t, but I don’t understand it. That’s one point that all of the Republican factions in power agree on, and that point can be passed via reconciliation. Heck, they could even tell their base that in doing so, they’ve “repealed Obamacare”.

**DrDeth** , don’t forget that the only thing relating to guns that Obama actually did, he got criticized by the Republicans for not exerting enough gun control.

Because under the arcane rules of reconciliation, that might be it for a year for spending cuts via reconciliation, unless Congress passes another budget resolution.

See the wiki article on Reconciliation:

> **[Reconciliation (United States Congress)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconciliation_(United_States_Congress))**
>
> Budget reconciliation is a special parliamentary procedure of the United States Congress set up to expedite the passage of certain federal budget legislation in the Senate. The procedure overrides the Senate's filibuster rules, which may otherwise require a 60-vote supermajority for passage. Bills described as reconciliation bills can pass the Senate by a simple majority of 51 votes or 50 votes plus the vice president's as the tie-breaker. The reconciliation procedure also applies to the House...

> [@](#):
>
> As an example, if a reconciliation bill impacts both spending and revenues, no further reconciliation on these topics con occur afterward since the first reconciliation bill addresses both of these. Reconciliation may only occur once for each topic per year unless Congress passes a second budget resolution.

> All other things being equal, if the status quo in everything is maintained except that Trump gets to appoint Kennedy and Ginsburg’s replacement, and in 2020 someone other than Trump is elected, I’d consider that a net positive. If on the other hand some other calamity were to occur because of the Trump administration, then I’d have to evaluate it. But thus far, as I previously had predicted, Trump isn’t able to actually accomplish much. That’s because he’s bad at it.

Somehow the drastic reduction of standing in the world the US has undergone as a result of Trump, as well as the straining of intelligence networks due to his big fat stupid mouth, doesn’t qualify as a “calamity”. But keep in mind, Trump has literally not had to deal with a serious problem yet. There hasn’t been _anything_ that actually tests his administration yet. No major natural disaster, no major terror attack, no wartime shift. Trump hasn’t had to test his mettle under any more than the most ordinary circumstances, and he _still keeps fucking it up_.

How bad would a president have to be for you to say, “Yeah, okay, sure, the republican might get to appoint a few supreme court members, but _fucking hell_ his politics are disgusting and I can’t support this”? No really, how incapable of doing their fucking job would they have to be? Because right now, I think Mel Carnahan would make a better president, and Mel Carnahan _died in 2000_ before beating John Ashcroft in an election.

It’s not like this was an issue on the campaign trail or anything…

…Oh wait, [yes it was](http://time.com/4247397/donald-trump-waterboarding-torture/).

Well, North Korea just made an ICBM and the president needs to get his security briefings in the form of tweets. _You tell me_.
