The wife and I visited the Hershey factory in Pennsylvania last year. I don’t recall seeing Cadbury. The wife doesn’t either. ---

No, you did not. The other major US brand, Ghirardelli, is much worse than Hersheys. I had some Dagoba 83% a while back, that was pretty interesting, but I am not sure if it is USian. ---

I wouldn’t even call Ghirardelli a “major brand” in the US. Sure, it is quite widely available, but i’ve met plenty of people who’ve never even heard of it. It never would have even registered on my consciousness except that my wife is from San Francisco. And while Ghirardelli might not be the gourmet chocolate that the company (and some San Franciscans) portray it as, it is so far superior to Hershey that there’s almost no comparison. ---

That is because the process Hershey’s uses actually sours the milk. That’s the aftertaste you get. I dislike it too. There’s no “major” US brand that I like but I do like a number of the brands my co-op sells. It’s like beer to me. I’d much rather have a lesser amount of something I really, really like than a lot of the mediocre stuff. ---

Finnish is not Germanic so it doesn’t have those harsher sounds, and has a surfeit of vowels. Fun fact: Kinder Surprises are hollow eggs with toys inside. They use a processes that most other chocolatiers don’t use. I used to live by their factory (they haven’t been based in SF for quite some time, 1967 I think). The smell was kind of awful, burned chocolate smell. I’ve never heard of Dagoba - says they’re Hershey’s owned. For a second there, I thought you were combining an Italian slur via Ghirardelli with the Star Wars planet!
