Well, as far as I can tell every person that ever does it is merely being tongue-in-cheek–and in fact, the more inane the thread, the more likely it is to come up. What makes this joke any more annoying than the other tongue-in-cheek comments on the board? I mean, given that no one really means it? ---

Blue? I scoff at your blue. Yellow is the best. My pet peeve is people who don’t read others’ posts before they post. You **know** they don’t listen IRL, either. I can’t count the number of times I have posted something and then a few hours later someone else posts almost exactly the same thing. Am I writing in invisible ink? ---

Oh I do love to tweak a thread one more time after someone has posted in their opinion that a discussion is ended over and done with In fact I like to be on the lookout for threads that are nearing a premature death ala moderator -I’m not quite fanning the flames but standing at the edge of the pit poking the embers with my stick - and then I try to get in my two obnoxious cents just before the ax swings and the thread is closed. ---

Read The Fucking Manual. Usenet … ah, someone with more experience online (as I have only been online for 7 or so years) will know better than I do, but it was a sort of BBC-type place. Definitely for the more knowledgeable computer user, as it required more than simply getting online and typing “[boards.straightdope.com](http://boards.straightdope.com)” into your browser. [sub]I think. That’s how _ **I** _ explain the rash of _different_ thought on here of late…[/sub] ---
