A More Narrow Gay Marriage Amendment Proposed by Pundit...thoughts?

did read yoru pit thread on the communist plot. chuckled at that one. I guess my thing is that being here in dc, where it rarely gets warm enough to snow from all that political hot air, you kinda loose touch with reality. I do live jsut across the river in VA, so for me the Lawrence decision struck down a state law that harmed me, but I also got to see the backlash of the decision int he papers when it hit VA that they would no longer be able to use the sodomy laws randomly any more. but they found a loop hole, they said “fine, we can’t get you in your bedroom, but try any of that stuff in a public place…”
guess I am jsut a bit tainted from stuff like that. yea, I would like to marry the man of my dreams, and have the house and kids and all that, I jsut wonder if short of moving away from the “land of the free” I will really ever see it. and having seen first hand the reaction of the conservatives of VA, I wonder if I ever really will.
the only real way in my opinion for us to get any advancement, is to come out ot family, freinds, co-workers, etc. and maybe they will realize that homosexuals are not freaks or stereotypes, as my dad did, but real people with real dreams, goals, ideals, etc. and approve of the “lifestlye” without necesarily approving of everythign that homosexuals do. heck, do any of us really want to think of our parents (or for you parents, your kids) having sex? I think we all have our little hangups there thanks to those puritans that first helped settle this country.

I think the proposition put forth in the OP is probably one of the worst solutions. Nothing says division than saying that each state is responsible for its own marital laws. What would the IRS recognize for one. There’s a huge loophole that would need to still be answered down the road and it would lead us right back to the same argument.
The LGBT communtiy is not going to go away by enforcing laws and (unfortunately) the conservatives that hide behind the bible won’t either.
I do agree with OPer that it should come down to an either/or situation. Either all consenting adults can get married to one another (i’ll even throw polygamy in there) or no one gets married officially by the state. I prefer the latter. I say, let people get “Unioned” which removes any religious semblance to the process and the people sitting with bibles up their cracks can get “married” in the eyes of their own gods outside of the whole governmental process.

Thems just my bitter $0.02.

(p.s. Communism & gay? Since when did homosexuality get set up with a fiscal system for a society?!)

I will say it again and again and again. Being a hetersexual guy, I personally believe that if two consenting adults who love each other and want to share their lives and spend the rest of their natural lives together. SO BE IT! regardless of gender.
Its all common sense folks.
I hope that some sort of measure gets passed that insures the same rights to Gays as we the Str8 folk have in regards to Marriages.
