Happy Friday Mumpers! I made samosas and tandoori chicken for dinner (well not really tandoori, I grilled it). Quite delicious, but I’m finding my spices to be serviceable at best. I think I need to spend more money at Penzeys. I just like making up excuses to spend money at Penzeys, but hey, it works. And I’m off to B&N. Imma fend off spoilsports and overzealous fans with my garlic-ginger-curry-onion breath of dooooom! ---

Well, just when you think you can see the light at the end of the tunnel…Mr.SCL’s patient was put back in the hospital last night. Mr. SCL thinks the nurse who was on duty overreacted but whatever, the patient is in ICU and is not at all happy about it. So any chance of me getting to a doctor just got put further off. Damn it. I am so tired of this. And to top it off I have friggin’ cramps. I volunteered to ride with Librarian Friend to Atlanta tomorrow to pick her cousin up at the Amtrak station. Since neither one of us has lived in Atlanta in years, I’ll navigate with the directions and she’ll drive. I wish I had a dash-mounted rocket launcher; I always feel like I need one driving in Atlanta. No Harry Potter for me, yet. I will eventually get it to go with the other 6, but I just can’t justify spending that kind of money right now. Boo, yah, cheers, {{{hugs}}} as appropriate. Cult game is taking time away from the MMP. ---

My copy is on the way from the UK (I love the web!) and is supposed to be here in a week. Given their previous track record, I expect to have it in less than that. I have yet to have a single item from either the US, Canada or UK Amazon to take more than five days to arrive, and it’s usually fewer than that. This gives me time to reread the last couple of them, because there’s a lot that I don’t remember about what happened in them. I’m not all _that_ fanatical, but as a kid I sure would have been! **SCL** , what problems I had driving in Atlanta were all about the navigation. I mean, yeah, they have a lot of scary people on the road, but it’s the most confusing place I’ve ever driven in. Aww, poor Scruffy. She must have been abandoned at some point. It’s not like _I_ neglected her! ---

If every third street in Atlanta didn’t have “Peachtree” in the name, it would be a damn sight easier to find your way around. As it is, every time I’ve ever driven in Atlanta, I’ve gotten hopelessly and hideously lost. And to top it off, my favorite Japanese restaurant in the U.S., a yakitori place run by a guy who’d trained with a chef just a few miles from where we’d lived in Japan, closed a few years ago, so what’s the use of going there any more? 😃 I hate laying in a new knitting pattern. Especially with rows that are already a couple hundred stitches long, I’m using teensy needles, and the yarn is laceweight so it’s really, _really_ thin. And then I find out three-quarters of the way down a row that I’ve screwed up somewhere in the row, so not only do I have to pick my way back to where I screwed up, I have to find the spot in the first place. Grrr…but at least now I know what I did wrong. I’ve always had good luck with cable patterns because you can _see_ where the cables are going; I think I’m starting to learn to see where the lace patterns are going, too. They’re considerably trickier to see than cables, obviously. And none of you really care about my travails with my knitting, do you? Except **Jahdra**. And speaking of **Jahdra** , where has she been this week? Doesn’t she love us any more? \ ---

I am up again and still not sure if I’m going to Borders to wait in line. I hate when I’m all indecisive about about this stuff… Having a cuppa and seeing if I wake up at all (doubtful, since it’s caffeine free). The last remaining brownie is looking awfully good… #1 son just made a plea for me to go get the book. He doesn’t ask for much, so I need to weight that as well. I heard somewhere that chocolate helps you think… ---

Morning all (well, it’s morning here - just before 9:00am)!!! Noor is still runny, but perfectly upbeat as usual (touch wood). Stool sample culture from yesterday apparently showed a minor bacterial infection, and if there is no real improvement by this afternoon, we will go back to the doctor for some antibiotics! For those of you who missed it, [post=8798688]here[/post] is the brownie recipe. I also thought you might enjoy [this article](http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22107478-421,00.html) about the death of the matriarch chimpanzee at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo. I think it’s amazing the way all of the other chimps were paying their last respects! Good luck and happy reading to all the diehard HP fans. Howdy Y’all! Just cruisin’ through before I go to sleep. As I said earlier today, ACBG was here when I got home. I showered and then…ummmm… well, I’ll just leave that to y’all’s imagination. 😉 Still, I’m not quite ready to sleep and he’s snorin’ away. I guess I wore him out! 😃 **Moooooom** I haven’t read any HP either. So there’s two of us [del]old farts[/del] normal people who don’t know what the fuss is about. Work went well tonight. I thought I was gonna get tapped for a shift tomorrow (indications early on were I would be) but I didn’t cause one of the lines will be down for maintenance tomorrow. I have been told, however, to be prepared for two or three twelve hour shifts next week. Fine with me, cause they gotta pay me time and a half for anything over eight hours and double if it’s a weekend. Though I’d rather have a life than the money if given a choice, if it’s “forced” (we can be told we must work OT) I’ll take the money. Yays, boos, congrats, awwws, etc. where appropriate. tarra, gt, FCMom, Thank you for reading and being glad I’m ok. I am glad I could stop him and have (mostly) put it behind me. I miss Joy (GF), but wallowing and what-iffing won’t bring her back, and she’s at peace. Blessedly, I have Mrs. HSM, now. We went out for chinese food tonite. She drives and I pay. Marriage is great, aint it! I no longer have a driver’s license due to diabetic retinopathy and a VERY lackadasical VA healthcare system - good thing I got my Vietnam-era GI Bill - yuk, yuk! :rolleyes: Oh, I’ve not read any HP either. I saw the first movie though, but just not my cuppa tea. I was a prolific reader since age six, but for the last 4 years, I mostly listen to audio books. Between those and screen magnifiers, DVD’s and free long distance - I stay pretty busy. This is one more fun place I’ve found to hang out and enjoy. Been reading TSD since the '70s, but just started checking out the SDMB a few weeks ago. Very interesting and the Cool Kids[sup]TM[/sup] are sooooo much fun! Heff a Roo, tofu it is! \*\*Posit \*\* - I’m a Vietnam era vet myself, and I know what you mean about that GI Bill. I did get to use part of it while I was still on active duty, but most of it went away. By the time I traded in my green ID card for a pink one, I wasn’t inclined to go back to school. And once I started thinking about getting more educated, it had expired. Oh well, I’s smart enuff annywayz! 😃 I managed to sleep till after 6 this morning, mostly because we have been keeping our door closed as long as the kids are here, so we don’t get early critter visitors. It’s lovely and cool - mid-60s right now, so I have the house open and cooling. After I work my way thru the comics, I have some tidying and cooking to tend to, then the clan arrives around 1-ish. Everyone has been here at least once except for my brother and his SO. This month, we’re in the house 3 years, and he’s finally getting his butt down this way. I’ve got 2 chickies to get in the rotisserie, some sloppy joes to get in the crock pot, and I’m not sure what else - gotta check my list. Ice for sure, but I can send someone to fetch that. I’m trying to decide whether to go with foam plates or real ones. Decisions, decisions. Well, off to prepare. And I still haven’t written “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” yet. I was too tahred last night. Maybe after the crowd departs this afternoon… Happy Saturday, all!! 😃 ---

I’m up, caffeinated, fed, currently hydrating ( fancy word meaning drinking water) so I can go take a lengthy ride. That’s my favorite part of the self-torture - riding 12-15 miles AWAY from home, and realizing that the only way you’re getting back is to gulp some water and do the return trip. Breakfast was scrumptious, I found remnants of old french bread, JUST crusty enough to make into some fabulous french toast, made some thick sliced bacon, and extra strong coffee. urp. When I get back from the ride, the nice UPS man should have been here with Potter. I’ve read several spoilers already (I’m that kind of guy - :: waves at Mika, I won’t tell… SSHHH ::, so there’s that, I know where it’s GOING, I just have to see how it gets there. I do that, I start a book, read the end, then go finish the thing. However it ends, it’s still going to be a good story. Okey dokey, off to pedal til I drop. ---

**Scribbles** , ooohhh. . . audio books. What kinds do you listen to? I like Recorded Books and borrow their cassette tapes. Do you download any books? I use 4 different library systems to download Overdrive audio and Netlibrary books. I have at least 15 downloaded on most days. I just mostly sample those. Have you tried [Audible.com](http://Audible.com) (paid downloable audio books)? I’m thinking about it. . . their interface seems much more stable than it did a while ago. Thanks for the tofu. I like mine with soy sauce as a snack and with curry and vegetables as a meal. Thanks for the munchies. Hey all, I got up a little earlier than usual this morning… . and I got a bit of inspiration and creativity. . . . McDonald’s for breakfast 😃 Well, OK, if you can call it creativity. But at least it’s still there. . . it hasn’t been lost in the abyss.
