A great farewell column, Cecil! Many thanks for all you’ve done, with Little Ed’s help, over the years. I’ve enjoyed the Straight Dope more than most (just check my postcount), and have to say I’ll be sorry not to read any new columns by The Perfect Master.

The address still works and people continue to send queries. They continue to be handled like always except that we’re not collecting future topics for Cecil at this time. Mostly people are sent to the board, where we hope the Teeming Millions will step up and enlighten us all.

So who exactly is running things, paying the bills, making the decisions, managing the servers, etc. at this point? The thing can’t just run on autopilot, at least not for long.

Well, as usual, I’m late to the party (which hopefully is not a wake)… ☹
I read Ed’s announcement and Cecil’s final column at the time they were posted, and found the news so traumatic that I promptly blocked it out of my mind.
However, I am remiss for not taking the opportunity to thank Ed and Cecil for all they’ve done to promote the Straight Dope and the SDMB over the years.
I don’t recall reading any of Cecil’s columns in the wild, but I clearly remember finding his first paperback in a local bookstore in Houston back in the '80s. I bought all of the other Straight Dope books as well as soon as they came out. Then somehow I came across the SDMB a decade or so later and the rest was history. That was nearly 18 years ago – it is noteworthy that this is the only website on the web I have frequented for that length of time – not to mention the fact that I have likely spent more time on this website than any other (including Wikipedia and Facebook).
Thanks again, Ed (and Cecil)! Good luck to the new administration.
