I think you’re right @Lightnin - he was suddenly in a position that nothing he said was inconsequential, and opening his mouth at all put him at risk. So back to running out the clock. Which our system sadly makes very, very easy to do. Well, if you’re a rich, powerful white person at least. ---

As [538 pointed out](https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-devin-nunes-is-resigning-from-congress/) redistricting might be poised to screw Nunes’ safe district in CA. I wouldn’t rule out some serious self-interest here. Of course it might very well be a combo - a true believer making a timely move. ---
