I recall reading a biography of Benjamin Franklin that as a child his family would say a lengthy prayer before every meal. Being bored, and a bit of a trouble maker, he asked why couldn’t they just say a prayer over the entire keg of dried fish once and be done with it, which earned him a sharp blow to his head and ears from his father. Gotta love those founding fathers! ---
